My car is a 2008 Touring so it should have VLSD. However I went to install my Nismo diff cover today and the gears look like open gears. I thought VLSD should be a sealed unit.

How can you tell? Here are two pics of my pumpkin opened up.

I'll take pics tomorrow of an open diff if you like, but that unit in your picture looks like LSD to me.

thats a vlsd for sure. also every z comes with vlsd except the base. im 100% on that, i just did mine.

thanks guys. vlsd doesn't last that long anyway. so maybe i'll upgrade in anyways. Would love a Quaife but mine isn't base so probably doesn't fit.

They last a long time as long as you change your fluid... There are Quaife models that fit automatics, base, and VLSD models so that should not be a problem.

If you do any organized racing an aftermarket LSD is a great buy... otherwise the VLSD does its job OK.

it does not matter if you change your fluid or not with the stock. the vlsd is a sealed unit with fluid inside. once that fluid loses it's viscosity then it stops working.
