3.3/3.5 Pumpkin Question..
When looking at a stock pumpkin, is there a way to tell if the pumpkin contains 3.5 or 3.3 gears and whether or not its VLSD? (based on model numbers, serial numbers, etc.)
The reason i ask, is i just picked up a stock pumpkin that was advertised as 3.5 with VLSD, and just want to be 110% sure thats what it is before i put it on...
the pumpkin is off an 05 G35 coupe, but again, thats if im taking the guy's word for it... and im sure the guy is not lying, but like i said i want to be 110% positive for myself....
thanks in advance

crack open the case, if its a vlsd it should look like the attached picture 2. i also included a pic of the complete pumpkin, so you can take note on the breather hose.
another trick to see if its a vlsd or not, spin one of the axle stubs, if they both go the same way, its vlsd, if they go opposite directions its an open diff. any other questions feel free to ask or pm me.
by looking at the gear itself, id imagine itd be very hard to tell the ratio. however if it had the sport package it is for sure vlsd (not sure if/when the g had a vlsd-but sport package did for sure).another factor as far as the gearing goes; if it was a 6mt it is for sure a 3.5. also to my knowledge, the vlsd should have a metal breather hose on the pumpkin cover (i just swapped pumpkins from my z and my g)

Its the other way around. Turn the input shaft how ever many revolutiuons it takes for the axle shaft to make one complete revolution. If you get approx 3.5 turns, its from a manual. If you get approx 3 1/3 turns, its from an auto.
If you wanted to get real nuts, you can count the teeth for the speed sensors (46 I think) to obtain fractions of revolutions and divide. Thats what I did when some clown sold me a diff that was from an auto.

^haha yeah he's the seller, and a great seller too (im about to leave you an iTrader)... but like i said, just want to be 110% sure for myself... nothing against 4drmadness.....and im glad i asked cause i didnt know that you can tell the ratio but turning the input shaft and counting axles turns.... makes sense..
