What's the best way to hit 350rwhp?
I will hopefully be getting my Z soon. 04 Daytona Blue Enthusiast.
I've set a goal for this car, simply 350rwhp. I don't really need that, but at least a 100rwhp gain over stock is a reasonable goal for me. If you were going to do this, what would be the most cost effective, reliable, and safest way to hit this? All motor would be great, but I'm not opposed to FI either. Another question, at what mileage do you recommend I do my 'baseline' stock dyno run? (right after break-in?) Thanks everyone! |
NOS.
No doubt about it. Easy, inexpensive, and our motors are PLENTY strong for a 100 shot. |
Never liked the idea of using N20. wait a while for the aftermarket to catch up. Bolt ons are netting what, 20hp at the most? Forced induction would be the way to get there, but don't expect to go too far on this compression
|
I've thought about NOS, but in all honesty, I'm not a huge fan of it. Is 350rwhp even possible right now with NA? I'm sure it's costly.
I'm a big fan of Turbo, the single turbo kits being developed have me watching with great excitement. -Dana |
All bottle no throttle :D I agree though. Not for me.
350rwhp isnt possible right now NA AFAIK. I'm sure all the bolt ons, plenum, and cams may get you near 300rwhp. But that is thousands and thousands for minimal gains. 350rwhp NA will most likely compromise a great deal of driveability for power I don't recommend running turbo(s) on stock compression. Won't get to use it to it's full potential |

The ATI SC has 3 motors blown and it appears to be a tuning issue - running to lean. I wont touch it until they fix it (if they will be able to fix it). 2. Stillen SC is only putting out about 305rwhp thus more like a 60hp gain, not enough for me. Besides, they have had some problems with running hot. Hopefully the intercooler they are releasing will fix it. Strut bar has to be removed too on this et up which effects handling negatively. 3. Dreamworks SC: Do a search, nice idea, better integrated to motor than Stillen thus no after market hood needed. HP gains are promises right now (but they are promising high numbers), not verified and reliability will be verified after it is released by us, the Z owners. I like that they are promising smog legal and a 3 year warranty on entire motor and will be offered at Nissan dealers. It almost seems to good to be true which means it probably is to good to be true. 4. TT: A bunch coming out. The first to be released seems to be the PE TT coming out soon. Again, this would meet your HP criteria but cost is high and driveability and reliability are still unknows. I will let others buy this one first because it is untested. I hope that helps...Jeff |

Originally posted by zland I want the same but I am waiting. Honestly, FI out right now has its flaws IMHO. 1. The ATI SC has 3 motors blown and it appears to be a tuning issue - running to lean. I was told that Stillen is coming out with a higher boost version but if you go with it, you void the warranty they offer.
|
Stillen has always been planning an intercooler that joins (how I don't know) with the SC. It does not require yet another hood or anything like that. In fact, one of the big reasons for the new hood is the to-be-added-later intercooler.
Can you hit 350 rwhp with all NA? I would say yes. Nismo's GT car is rumored to be putting down 450, NA. How true this is I am not sure. Then again, they did bore the engine to 3.6L. To hit 350rwhp on NA, which is the path I am considering, you would have to at least do the following: exhaust, intake, plenum, throttle body, cams, headers, cats, bore to 3.6L, 11:1 pistons, rods, springs, spring retainers, ignition, and ecu. If you do the above with a balance and blueprint of the engine, I believe you could safely raise the rev limiter by a good distance. With a TS ECU flash, raising the rev limiter is possible. The above would be expensive as hell, but probably in league with a solid TT kit and a professional install. |

Forced induction would be the way to get there, but don't expect to go too far on this compression as for nitrous I say go for it all the way cheapest way to get there... estimating that your "new" car will be about 235-245 whp stock 100 shot NX wet system will put you right at about 335-345 whp and I swear to god if someone yells about no you have too subtract for drive train loss I'm gonna snap... so SSSSHHHH.....(austin powers style) However if you want a car to fly I would say it would be awesome if you could get 345whp NA ( I know it will happen eventually) and add about 75-100 nitrous your car will do that in fact just plain fly same with a TT and nitrous although I think your NA plus nitrous setup will be a little more reliable -non |
uh
Buy a Z06 =)
j/k |

If I own a Z06 Vette, what is the easest way to get rid of all the rattles and common problems associated with American made products?
......Buy a 350Z! (Sorry guys, just had to type it) |

(Sorry guys, just had to type it) However, the Z06 is one bad a$$ car. Plenty of power and great handling. Looks good too. The only negative is the quality of the interior (guess we can say the same about the z though) |
I get some good rattles in the Z. Now that I put the exhaust on I can't hear them anymore anyways. It rattles way more than my Z28 did but not nearly as much as the GTI I had.
|
Yeah I can second on the rattles. My newest one is my rear view mirror ! Lets add them up. One in drivers side door somewhere (when I push on the door I can silence it). Second one is in the passenger door arm rest I think. Third is the rear view mirror which I readjusted and silenced it for now...but I'm sure it will be back! I've been close to taking her back just because of the rattles and squeaks I can't stand them !

Yeah good idea.
How can anyone actually think that a piece of plastic and metal all screwed together that has a stiff suspension is actually going to be able to go down imperfect roads and use a loud stereo, etc. and not make a single sound? Every car I have ever been in (and that's more than a few) have made noise in protest of their intended function. Maybe you should try walking. Hey! Wait a minute! I just looked and this is a horsepower thread! |
I knew if I made a cheap shot at the Z06 it would get you guys talking. Anyways, you just got to admire the Z06. What performance at a reasonable cost & comparatively cheap price. There are things to admire about the Viper, kind of like a weight lifter on roids but the Vette is a well balanced machine. I would prefer it personally. Much more of a daily driver yet 98% the performer of the Viper.
Like I said, I had to type my comment to defend the 350Z. This is a Z forum after all. Actually, the biggest compliment I can say for the Z06 is it is the car I target my 350Z to mod towards. 405hp, laterial 1g, excellent braking, about 4 second 0-60. How can you argue against those specs? I just hope that with the right FI system, upgraded brake kit etc, I can get close to those specs. Time will tell. Do you guys think I am fooling myself or can the 350Z come close to matching the Z06 with the right combination of mods? Jeff |
