economical LSD
i have a base z and was thinking of buying an lsd. what are some more economical brands? i know nismo makes one but it is pretty pricy.
any suggestions? would ihave to change the clutch? |
Maybe you can get the oem one off someone who upgraded to the nismo lsd?
|
$1000 for LSD is the average price and u dont want to get oem one from someone's car because u still need a few stuff just to make it work with the base model so u might as well buy a new LSD.

the NISMO is a good bet, as is Cusco
|
and Kaaz :)

Maybe you could get a use VLSD from people who upgraded their LSD. or maybe get a Phamtom Grip LSD.

The thing about the Nismo LSD is that it comes will all the parts you need to do a open diff conversion. If you did not get those parts with the Nismo you be looking at $300 for LSD stub axles, and $100 for LSD bearings and seals. That's $400 in required parts that come in the Nismo box. It even comes with diff oil. The Nismo diff sells for $950-$900, installation is usually $400 |

Originally posted by Gsedan35 Well, the Nismo is where it starts price wise. Call it the price of admission on the course to improving your car. I followed the ill advised temptation to skimp on spending money and I have a $900 hole in my pocket and a oem VLSD conversion that isn't a 1/4 as effective as I thought it would be. I paid the price for not really thinking things through. The thing about the Nismo LSD is that it comes will all the parts you need to do a open diff conversion. Here's a pic of what you get then you buy the Nismo LSD and lay out the parts in the box. has anyone tried to install a clutch type LSD? how difficult is it, scale 1 to 10? spcial tools required?
|
Lots of us have Clutch type LSD's..install is not for the unexperienced. I had a drivetrain specialist install mine as there is specialized tools needed

I had a drivetrain specialist install mine as there is specialized tools needed After reading through both the included instruction manual and the FSM, I would suggest that you have this installed by a transmission specialist. The tolerances are tight, and a small error in alignment could destroy the gears and require an entire new rear-end. Mine will be going in next week :) |
