Easy way to kill the Daytime Running Lights or make your HIDs DRL instead?

My 04.5 ZR has these stupid little DRL's that just looks really weird when my HID's are on. Is there a fuse or something simple I can just pull to get rid of them? I'd rather just use my HID's are DRL's, I turn them on in day anyway...

Are these lights on when the light switch is in the "off" position or are they on when you turn one click? because i think u might be referring to the city lights down where the hi beams reflect??? these lights are on when turn the first click and then the second click is to turn the lights "on"...

Iv never herd of z's having DRL's but to get rid of that light just simply pull it out. Its a fairly small little bulb...

i wouldn't use your headlights as day time running lights. HID's are expensive to replace.

if you want day to running lights then go buy some fog lights and put them in your grill. This is what i'm considering doing.

Yeah I guess it is a 'city light'. Thought it was a DRL from the looks of it. But yeah, a small little bulb. Is it easy to take out? Looks like i'd have to take the entire headlamp out which i'd rather not do until I replace my HIDs anyway.

And I don't have a problem replacing HID capsules, they are only $140 or so for a pair which isn't that much. They last at least 2 years or more with how much I use them.

Anyway, i'm assuming this 'city light' isn't on its own fuse, so I'd have to take the bulb out?

yea man its pretty simple, no need to take the headlight out. just lift your car on a little floor jack (either side) and remove a few pop-pins and pull the mud shroud out and BAM its right there, just twist and pull.

Err...that's just your humble parking light. DRLs are lights that run continuously, regardless of whether headlights are on. Thank goodness only Canadians are stuck with those :icon17:

Just remove the bulb and be done with it.

I actually have been considering trying to make my signals double as auburn daytime running lights. (Think general motors vehicles such as the previous generation cts.) Does anyone know what this would entail?

I'm replacing those (parking lights) with bright LED's.

usually, the heat of the HIDs will really kill the life of those LEDs... ive been trying to look for LEDs or bulbs that can match the HID that can take that sort of heat but no luck...

were can you get those led parking lights?

gregom 04-10-2008 07:52 AM

Thanks fellas i'll probably remove it this weekend.

I bought mine at Pep Boys, and have been running them for a year now. No heat related problems.
