Seibon Carbon lip problem and warranty void
The emails are upside down so read the emails from the bottom up.
He also told me it was my fault that the exhaust was too close to the lip. But when i ordered the lip from hopupracing.com it only stated two exhausts that the lip wouldn't fit. Has anyone else had these problems with seibon? And does anyone have any recommendations of what I should do with Seibon or the lip to repair it? Pics of the damage on the bottom RE: 350z tt style rear lip defective From: Mikey Lee (mikey@seiboncarbon.com) Sent: Tue 9/08/09 11:57 AM To: 'damon lipscomb' () Hi Damon yes in the image it does show the lip is way to close to the exhaust. But we never stated that it will fit with an aftermarket exhaust. Please note that if this was a stock exhaust the damage will not happen at all. Please note that even the dealer would not tell you stuff like this. This is common sense. If your exhaust was too close to your stock bumper or your paint it would melt that too. If you try to touch it I’m sure it would burn your hands. In situations like this, you can not just blame us for your mishap. We do not state this on our website because as we said these parts are aftermarket parts and when anyone who purchase these parts will have the knowledge that these parts will not withstand heat. Same like any other parts that’s on the car. Thank you. I feel that if this is a known problem it should be clearly stated before people spend hundreds of dollars on a product that is going to fail. As already described on our website they are only UV protected. Please note that the Carbon fiber itself can withstand heat but the clear coat on there will not. Sorry but we are unable to process your claim. Thank you. The Z is a show car and sits in the garage unless traveling to a show. The damage is around the drivers side exhaust outlet. I believe the damage is from the exhaust heat, and the clear coat has seperated from the carbon fiber, which should not happen because the lip should be heat treated. If the product is not capable of handling the heat it shouldn't be advertised as heat treated. With such a reputable company I had hoped the product would hold up a little bit better than this. Please let me know if the lip can be covered by warranty. Thank you, Damon http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...e/DSC03214.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...e/DSC03216.jpg |
Honestly, I'm surprised you even got response from SEIBON. Their "warranty" is a joke and is never covered. They generally will ignore you and tell you to take it up with the shop you purchased it from.
In the end I know it can be frustrating but this is what you get for purchasing a very low quality body part. You will ALWAYS get what you pay for in the aero modification. p.s. I have dealt with Mikey in the past, he's a complete ass. |
thanks for informing everybody of where not to buy our parts....lol

yeah well i bought it from hopupracing.com and they had a really good price and i got it within 4 days which was awesome.
I wouldnt call it a cheap part. but I would call there warrenty a joke. I find it ridiculous that he straight told me that the lip wouldnt withstand the heat from the exhaust. I wanted to say are you Fu%$ing serious!!! |

well to my knowledge there isn't much better than seibon in carbon fiber parts.
Any recommendations on brands for next time? |
He's right, that's just poor installation. The exhaust should have been moved or tips should have been bent or cut/welded and extended to fit the openings perfectly. If you couldn't do that, then the openings should have been cut for proper clearance. Looks like only the clear coat cracked and not the epoxy, fix the exhaust, sand down and re-clear.
Seibon is near the bottom of my list with VIS and Carbon Creations from the parts I've received. |

Not the end of the world from where the problem is, pix not very good, nobody is going to put their face in ur exhaust tips, and you can fix that easily.

i already reshaped the hanger to make it fit.

Asuka, Top secret, Varis, Mastergrade, Chargespeed, Veilside, Voltex, Amuse, C-west, etc., etc.
Seibon, Vis, and Carbon Creations all fall at the bottom of the list. Chargespeed - had entire kits (bottomline) and various pieces on my Evo and Z - all perfect! Asuka - Hatch, fits perfectly, so much better than expected for a hatch! Voltex - rear diffuser, so sick and perfect fitment Top Secret - flawless hood INGS+1 - Perfect fender GruppeM - beautiful weave Rexpeed - perfect RSW - perfect Bad pieces: VIS - good and bad...hatch on my teg was ok...hood had a huge glob of clear coat - no warranty l super lame! OEM Z hood fits "ok" but not perfect. Carbon Creation - so called strong hood cracked when closing.... |

I remember when Vince bought it. Also don't forget about Evo-R in the not so good list. Remember all the troubles Vince had with that. |
