Another thing
Jack points would need to be considered as well... there are 2 of them, 1 in front and 1 in rear (diff)...
|
Well....not quite.
It would be very difficult to allow for those particualr jacking points. The ones along the edge of the car would be fine as you could simply trim away whatever you need for you particualr jack. In the middle....not so easy. Race cars for example have air jacks on the edges, not in the middle. Unfortunately it's a tradeoff if you really want an undertray. |
wow 470 + shipping is NOT BAD at all, for a full on undertray. If this can somehow work out for the G coupes as well (modular or 2 slightly dif. versions, dunno) then u can count me in.
|
I don't know how workable a full under tray would be, but something like the GTR I think would be a good start. To be honest I think there is a lot of testing that needs to be done with this early on before you can start selling them in mass (although I am sure you can get some "beta testers' right here on this board ;) )
Another challenge is developing something that works with all exhausts (stock, singles, duals, etc). Leaving the exhaust channel alone might be a good idea. |
I really don't think that you would need to do a lot of testing on this underbody as long as its "flat". The middle part of the car certainly doesn't need a venture tunnel running through it...not to mention there isn't any space for it. Besides most of the aerodynamic action always happens at the splitter and diffuser which wouldn't be a part of these components. The goal here from my understanding is just to smooth out the airflow under the car and a completely flat undertray would suffice since just allowing the air under the car to flow unobstructed will greatly increase its velocity and with that downforce will naturally increase, so no trick tunnels, ventures, or underbody wings necessary. But thats just my $0.02 :)
Oh and here's another thought about this stuff. I recall reading not too long ago an older articles where toyota was experimenting with underbody aero on an older generation celica. I can't find it for the life of me, but I do recall that they saw significant mpg gains, so this mod unlike most of the mods we do to our cars, will in fact be an investment and will eventually pay for itself 2 or 3 years down the road. |
You're right, underbody trays that don't feature "ground effects" don't really increase downforce. They do however help to reduce lift created under the car and "clean up" the drag associated with high pressure underneth the car. By cleaning up the air efficency is gained and I can easily see why this would lead to better MPG (drag is a big problem when trying to get better fuel efficency).
However, testing for cooling is a must. Overheating the diff or tranny oils is very expensive. |
agreed, the diff cooling might become an issue, I wouldn't worry so much about the tranny unless someone is running an auto, but either way it makes me think the GTR cutouts solution might be the best option....or some NACA ducts which Rev2Red mentioned. I'm so stoked for this, a flat undertray would be soo sweet esp. at this price point :D
|
Well, if you bare in mind the GT-R has a rear mounted gearbox, and you consider the amount of openings it has in the rear of it's undertray, you will notice there aren't that many (it does run a trans cooler though, i think). There does have to be some airflow to cool the diff and trans, but you would have it if you had the exhaust open, and a small outlet at the rear. Again, with the transmission heat, if you leave the exhaust open, there is more than enough air flow to extract the heat.
And if your running the gearbox and diff hard enough to be getting them very hot, then you really need to install some coolers anyway, right?!? Anyway. Cianci, are you there to chime in on what you have planned? |
Seems to be another Christmas thread
Any more wishes anyone |
lol :icon18:
Well if they don't have one by the end of summer i'm making my own. |
I was hoping for an xbox
Even if these don't materialize its a good discussion. When I say testing, I mean more for cooling and strength (I don't feel like being the first person to see what happens at 200km/h with a $100k car behind me), more so than the actual benefit. |
some cool parts you guys got. i'll check back here xmas time
|
Just make it fit, I will chop it up to deal with the heat.
|
^ amen.
|
So, are there no updates on this?
|
In for a update :dunno: can you have it clear all the GT Spec Lower Brace like the 4 Point Mid Brace, Front Lower Tie Brace, Lateral Arm Brace and Rear Lower Tie Brace :D

We can pretty much build any part. We have a shop 03 350z track here to use to develope new parts on. All we need to know is what you guys want and we can make it. It takes apx 10 people for a new product to be launched.
Let us know how we can help, -Ryan :horse: |
Cianci, you still there?
|
Well, i guess this one went down the potty then.
