Mad Eyelids won't stick, need help.
Hey guys, so recently I bought the Mad eyelids for my Z from Evo-R.net. They shipped really fast, and the paint is perfectly matched to my car. However, here's the problem I'm running in to. I paid a tad over $140.00 for them, and they don't stick like they should. They came with 3M double sided tape, and the edges keep peeling up where there is stress on them. You can push it down, but it pulls itself right back up. I installed them when it was rather hot out, should I wait until it's dark and cooled off to re-tape them and install them again? I just think with how much I paid for these they should be fitting better. Another idea I had was heating them up while I stick them so they form to the headlight better. Right now they are flat, and they have to bend a little to conform to the headlight. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? If I can't get this sorted out I'm going to send them back and spend $140.00 elsewhere..

clean lights with windex and use new 3m tape from auto zone or a thicker tape if it is warped.

i think it may be a sign to not put them on.. but you you are putting them on, clean the lenses, and then put 3m double sided tape on and use a small amount of heat while applying them so that it has more flex to it so it doesnt pull up the edges.

Thanks for your help guys, but I've decided to send them back and put the money towards a new exhaust setup instead.
|
^ that is a great decision. Good job:thumbup:

Any suggestions on a nice sounding exhaust setup to go with?

Get yourself some new tape. Buff inside of eyelid with sandpaper Clean headlight with isopropyl alcohol |
thank god you sent them back. And smart choice in using that $ towards a nice exhaust system.

the temp is hot.The problem probably is you did not clean the surface good enough.I use a 90% rubbing alchohol.Clean several times.I take it that you attached the lids one time? You did not lift up to move?Once 3m tape is down, its down.Sounds as you have to start over.Remove the old tape.Clean completely..3m has a an adhesive remover. You can get at auto paint shops. Also, consider using some professional 3m tape(can get a the same paint/body supply). The best is used for EXTERIOR panels. The covering is the usual red.But the adhesive is black. This tape "cures" after applied.IT WON'T COME UP.Another product that works well is "SEAL ALL".Comes in a tube.. all auto parts places should have it.Its a glue...Great for things like mirror covers. You can apply as a glue...brush to spread...press down...dries very quick. If you have any type of curve that the adhesive has to hold down, this adhesive may not be right for that application. Good luck! |

Personally,I don't like the low bass sounding systems. They all tend to sound alike...A Z running glasspacks.Sounds like a pickup to me.I prefer more of a "snarl"/European sound. After alot of looking on my part,I went with the NISMO CATBACK SYSTEM.Easy bolt on,sounds/looks great/reasonable price/ great quality.HP increase is another factor.Unless you are doing other mods cats, intake, spacers etc, don't expect a huge HP jump just with the exhaust system.I have to laugh when they quote a "weight savings"...like 9 lbs! Big deal.I also like Stillen, and of course,Borla. But,the NISMO seems to be engineered for this car and sounds fantastic! |
Get a Borla. I dont thing you'll regret it.

Eyelids are ghey! Your Z will not look mad, it'll look stupid. Return them and get your money back...

I'm actually thinking about running a custom Magnaflow setup. Right now I'm looking at buying one of their 14" 2.5" duel inlet/outlet mufflers and having an exhaust shop run the piping for me. I've heard a few setups done this way online and they seem to sound pretty good. I haven't read any complaints about them yet.

You can't install eyelids on your first try good luck with that exhaust...
|
You gave Evo-R $140 so you could have angry eyelids.... Now you're angry and I'm sure you've got eyelids to match... :icon20:
|
Step 1: Throw eye lids in trash.
Sounds like you've basically accomplished this task. Good job. |
