Test pipes and EGT's

Just wondering if any one knew if running test pipes verses Crawford cats , would lower EGT's any ? My thinking is if the exhaust can exscape faster , temps wouldnt build as high . ANY ONE ?

I thought that higher temps helped the gases exit quicker. I thought that was one of the reasons why people were wrapping their exhaust components.

most people record their egts directly off of the manifolds. since this is pre-cat there is no real way to compare. but yes having cat will actually lower the temp of your exhaust, because of all the excess honeycomb material absorbing the heat. a common trick that people use to fool the o2 sensor in the test pipes is to pull it out with washers so its not directly in the heat stream.

I have my probe about an inch away from the exhaust port . I was thinking of going back to test pipes and just wondered if anyone knew . The car is loud enough with cats on .
