I been looking at all the different kits. Everything from Greddy, turbonetics, APS, Power Enterprises etc... Well since you guys been having them for a while how is the reliability on your kits. If you had to do it all over again would you choose your kit and why or why not.

 

Not to be a d!ck but this has been asked over and over in the FI section of the boards, I suggest you go read up in there, enough info for weeks of reading to learn and take in.

But to quickly answer your question, YES I would buy my kit again, NO I wouldnt choose another kit, I have hit my goals already with this car, and Ive only had 3 runs in it down the 1/4, and I havent even tuned my race gas/high boost map yet. Every kit is different, has its weakness and strengths and will fit each individual better-you have to think of your budget, hp goals, tuning ability, ease of installation, customer service, daily driver or race car?, etc. Good luck....

 

Thanks, I've been reading about this but it seems that most of the post here have been posted on recent installation. I understand at the time that each individual was excited about their kits. I want to hear from the guys that have had their kits for over 2 years. Its a realibility issue ? that I am asking.

 

Personaly i'm convinced the best street kits are the ST kits. you dont really 'need' twin turbos for street driving. But basically all the kits are safe now. Its all down to ur installer and tuner. The kits are pretty much bullet proof. I suggest you try to stay WITHIN the country when it cmes to parts, cause itll be hard to get replacement parts form japan or australia for example

 

All the kits include a turbo or two, piping, some form of piggy back or reflash and some sort of fuel suppliment...

remember this formula and youll go far with FI

something to tune with that your tuner is comfortable/ ie very good with or goin to a reputable tuner.

Fuel Return Kit w/ proper fuel to suffice your power goals

Wideband to monitor
EGT, Boost, H20 Temp, Fuel Pres & OIL Pres gauges

turbo kit of choice. some include above things

Have motor checked before for proper running condition before install

Make sure a competant installer does the work, whether you do it yourself or someone else does it for you... its $$ well spent to have a professional install if you dont know enough to do it right.

Clutch to support


Remebering you are on stock motor and do not do anything stupid....

in all fairness p;lenty of people have had problems and plenty have not. It all really depends on your tune and who installed your kit. In other words if you tried to cut corners or if you spent $$$

if reliability is your #1 issue, you should get forged internals and then go from there. secondly, find a good tuner near you with proven experience with the Z and see what he recommends since you'll be going there for the install and other crap later on. I see you are from texas, so contact sgp motorsports about an engine swap, they are in houston.

 

most people posting here seem to do street or drag strip driving with single turbos

not many autox or road course people running ST's?

 

^^ I would say most turbo set-ups arent really road raced hard, I know the VRT guys do, other than them seems like none or just the occasional track day...most guys increasing whp by 160-200+ are more concerned with drag times than road course times.

 

I've had my kit on for 15months and 26,5xx miles. In the course of that time I have had 3 Thermostats fail and my drive belts replaced because of wear. Other than that I've been careful reading my guages and maintaining the car and using the same gas at every fill up. I have had 0 fitment issues as my tuner is a very detail and thorough tuner.
If i had to do it all over, i would build the engine in the beginning. Also, if you can't afford to fix it if something goes wrong. Don't Turbo or SC your car cuz if something happens, your up chit creek and nothing feels worse than having this awesome car that you can't fix

 

Huh? How often do you frequent Willow Springs? Theres a Turbonetics powered Z there damn near every weekend theres a session running. Mossy Performance and Greg Vogel pilot that car. If I wasn't so damn busy I would be there every weekend too.

 

you're not expecting me to attend every track event at every location in the world or something are you? I was making a generalized statement. Even just frequenting the Autox/road course forum here there seems to be mostly NA or SC people with a few turbo people here and there

 

And if any of you have seen Greg drive on a track, you certainly know he pushes the car to its limits thus props to TN for surviving the Greg Vogel "maniac driver test".

 

No but because you don't you shouldn't make the assumption that STs don't do this. Not everyone with a ST kit who tracks their car goes to that forum. I do track mine but I don't go to that forum.

 

look man, I know you being associated with turbonetics and everything you have a mission to lead people to think ST's are the best at everything there is and that's cool. We can play that "you aren't everywhere" game all day where we run off a list of names of ST people vs everyone else that tracks their Z and see who's list is bigger. So I'm just going to agree to disagree with you then ok?

I never said NOBODY uses ST's for autox/roadcourses - in fact I'm more than sure there's a lot of people running ST's who just happen to track here and there. Just that chances are there's more SC and NA people than ST out on those types of courses. Honestly most of the serious track people care more about suspension, tires, brakes, rollcages/bars, skill, and what class they race in
