Really sucks man, I just blew my motor too I know how it feels. Well good luck. Did anything happen to lead up to this or did it just go.
|

You had to know that without the relocation pipe installed this was to be your destiny.
Live and learn..... The point is to learn from others who have gone before you. This overboost issue has been known for over a year now. Some people have to learn the hard way. Now build a motor and sell the TN kit for a Greddy TT like everyone else has. I'm counting the days til that's posted. Sucks anyway... I feel for you. Been there. First the bumper crushed by your sister and now this!! JET |
OUCH!!! sorry for ur loss man hope u get her back running soon..
|
ipcheck - Sorry bro for the loss of the motor, but you can't blame this on not having the relocation pipe. You have a totally custom wastegate setup so this isn't the problem with the factory kit. Perhaps there was a problem with your custom setup? (I can't guess what because I don't know how it was configured)
Besides, I've never heard of anyone hitting to 20psi, overboost or not. Either way, good luck on getting the rebuild. |

He had a custom wastegate setup (neither a stage 1 setup or a turbonetics wastegate relocation) Thanks for jumping on the turbonetics hating bandwagon, again... |
Dam.... I have read about 6-7 blown motors in the past 2 weeks.
|
Hmmm.... looks like there's a WG stuck in the OE location in those pics. WTF do you care about my opinions of the Turbonetics setup? What did I say that was negative. Lighten up a little!!!

His post back from April talking about overboosting.....

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN EVOLUTION TO ME MOUNTED IN THE OE LOCATION.... Maybe you should get your story straight!

I see your problem, its that Orange FRAM oil filter, :icon38:
Sorry for your misfortune, gotta pay to play. GL with the rebuild! |
Not that it has anything to do with your motor getting blown (sorry about that BTW :() but next time around, I agree you should use some better oil filters than fram. I listed a few great brands in the top 100 questions thread
Good luck, hope everything turns out ok |

JET I'm going to wait for him to respond before we go any further. He told me he had fabbed up a custom wastegate mount about 1-2 months ago (Since April). I don't believe this is the traditional "overboost" problem unless this was simply not true. In any sense, the "overboost" issue alone would not cause boost to spike to 20+psi. Cold air or not, that's just a rediculous amount of boost that would be indicative of an inoperable wastegate. He also told me he had been running the car at 12psi without boost control this week and I advised against it since he would theoretically be out of fuel. I wouldn't have even run the car in that stage, but he said it felt solid. :( |

https://my350z.com/forum/showpost.ph...52&postcount=1 JET You still don't have the full story on that issue. He was overboosting in that case due to the flex (ribbed) dump tube he had installed that was causing such backpressure that the wastegate wasnt opening. He replaced it with a smooth pipe and the overboost problem went away. Meaning - that "overboost" problem you're referring to (due to a modified wastegate) was since FIXED:: https://my350z.com/forum/forced-induction/181920-installed-atmosphere-dump-huge-problem-big-time-overboost-read.html Please refine your search skills before trying to own me again, thanks. |
8 psi spike is crazy.... i think something else might be a factor here.
i really dont understand why many people are pushing their stock motors and running boost controllers on the TN kit, i mean the tq levels are already high and i am crazy about pushing the limits. sorry bout your motor man, good luck with the rebuild, if you near florida area, hit me up and i will see what i can do for you... |
Yea man that sucks I was there when it happend my heart just dropped. It sorta made me scared to drive home. :( I dont realy know about TN kits but how would it just boost 20psi out of no where? did the vacumme line for the wastegat come off?
|
Wow! That is no good! Get her built and back on the road. Sorry to hear about that.
