wait till you hear this thing. I went with a very large camshaft...not too big to where it wouldnt work well with the setup..but very large. If anyone knows anything about V8s..the duration on the cam is 238/240...with lift well over .600 on both sides.

That's pretty good for a turbo motor. My uncle has a 245/247 in his stroker LS2 but he just sprays his.

As for the S/C's there no reason to use Magnussons anymore. The TVS has pretty much rendered it obsolete. :icon44:

well for a turbo setup that cam would be awful..when(if) I do a turbo im going to go with a 224/224 595/595 114

Update. I took the heads off and im having a local shop clean the sh*t out of them and do my springs. I cleaned all the buildup off the pistons and they look just about new now. For now im just going to install stock MLS gaskets and gm bolts. Next year when I rebuild ill be using head studs. The engine is ready for the cam..just have to unbolt the front cover.

Have you given thought to going with a C5/C6 differential and doing a rear-mounted transmission? Not to say it wouldn't be a h*ll of alot of work but, generally speaking, the LS2 weighs about 100 lb more than the VQ35. Moving the tranny to the rear should make more room for the turbo chargers up front and keep the weight distribution of the car nicely balanced.

Just my 2 cents. But I have been giving it alot of serious thought. Not this time around, we'll see how well the latest build holds up. If it doesn't, b@st@rd build here I come, TT LS3 up front, Tremec T-6060 and C6 rear end out back. Of course, by this time there will be alot of cutting involved and I'll need something else as a daily driver.

EDIT: Moving the transmission to the rear addresses two issues: 1) it makes more room for turbos (which I think will be a tight fit otherwise) and 2) it will provide better weight distribution. With a 350Z, I think this actually would work (at least better than in a G35; no back seat to worry about). You would have to cut down the torque tube, drive shaft and half shafts, but I think it could be done - hopefully without too much added expense. There may be some cutting in the back to make room for the transmission and larger differential, but you could probably weld some sort of small cover over it and cover it with carpet.

hope it all comes together for you. have you given any thought to running the turbo up front like you see on the AMS EVO's you would have to do it on the drivers side front or take your windsheild washer assembly out for a passenger side mounted turbo just a thought :dunno:

Move the transmission to the rear and you should have adequate room. :) Also, this will keep the car from being to nose heavy, which will make the car faster off the line (by putting more weight over the rear wheels) and give you better handling.

OK, I'll shut up about this rear transmission thing, at least until I do it.

the rear tranny from a c6/c5 is huge afaik.
its part of teh structure of teh car.

thats what i remember.

Slightly offtopic, but would an LS7 fit in the engine bay? What about the new LS9 with SC?

yes. they are the same size on the ouside...im not sure about the LS9 with charger but for the money it would cost you to do that im sure you could build a built LS2 with a maggie or kenne bell...and have enough money left over to buy a small beater car lol

SnyperZ 05-04-2009 05:00 PM

Cars done for people wondering.

haha thanks to you for making me the pedal mount. The pedal couldnt be in a better spot.

I got the car weighed today. The scale goes in increments of 20lbs and with the full interior, drag wheels and no spare the car weighed in at 3100lbs I'm gonna be honest..I didn't expect it to be that light.

The LS motors are very light given their performance!

What was your F/R weight ratio?
