Finally!! It can be done..

Let me start by saying this is for people that are willing to go all the way by breaking and destroying stuff to get to there goals.:icon38:
people said its imposable to change the volt+oil press gauges and keep the multi-gauge SO :

Now if we could only get some gauges that match the oem lighting. Still very nice install!

ev0k1ll3r 05-11-2009 08:47 PM

looks sweet!

SageZ 05-11-2009 11:01 PM

a little bit of ingenuity, nice

Cass007 05-12-2009 04:09 AM

I'm not sure what is so new here, several F/I members have done this in the past. Is it that you are using the 60mm gauges rather than the 52mm?

Either way, nice install.

is it different because he kept the stock multi-gauge on the left? i never tried this myself but i thought everyone did all or nothing

JasonZ-YA 05-12-2009 04:47 AM

retaining stock multi............awesome..

psychoballistic 05-12-2009 04:54 AM

Yea but people never kept the multi-gauge, as matter of fact people said its imposable to change the volt+oil press gauges and keep the multi-gauge :D.

post DIY or ban!

midz350 05-12-2009 07:59 PM

Believe me no need for DIY, just break the things that are shown in the last pic and put your aftermarket gauges instead and that's it.

No, the middle and right gauges have been proven to be removed and swapped while still leaving the multi guage in on the left. Some say it wasnt possible, but there was a thread on it years ago from a guy who did what you did. Most people and shops dont bother doing what you did though, so most ditch all 3.

tiguy99 05-14-2009 10:00 AM

How hard was it to rip those 2 pieces out?

Clint@Altered 05-14-2009 12:35 PM

I love this install. IMO, best place to put gauges.
We've done the three before, but not the two. Great Job!

Alright, so you left the gauges in there, just removed the plastic stuff in front and broke the needle off. The STRI gauges are rather shallow, so I assume they fit right in.

I didn't think it would be that easy ;) I do wish the STRI "amber" (red, really) gauges matched though. If I would have thought of this, I would have ordered an oil pressure gauge and a triple pod instead of dual, then I wouldn't have had to mount any gauges on top of the dashboard :(

biggersNISMO 05-15-2009 09:56 AM

Great work!

rrmedicx 05-15-2009 10:09 AM

Is there anything you have to be careful of when breaking apart the original gauges?
Very interested in adding 1 additional gauge but I already have a triple pod on the A-pillar. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.
Kudos, nice work. I often wondered about separating the 3.
