Unhappy Trouble with turbo G35, AFR in 9’s, hesitation, P0340/5

So, I’ve been having some very troubling issues with my G35 recently, here are some of the symptoms I’m experiencing right now:

• The AFR is sitting in the 9’s very consistently at nearly any amount of throttle (occasionally it’ll dip into the 10’s or slight higher but for the most part it’s in the 9’s)
• The car’s struggling to go past 2500 RPM
• Lots of hesitation above 2000 rpm
• Last time I checked I’m getting 2 CEL’s: P0340 AND P0345 (I believe they’re related to the camshaft position sensors, I’ve replaced the sensors from both banks with the sensors from my brother’s 350Z but I’m getting the same CEL’s still)

I’m not sure what to do at this point, does it seem like the car could be in limp mode? Does limp mode cause an extremely rich AFR? If so could that have cause the plugs to foul? Any other suggestions?

Check your maf.

Bad maf would make your car dump fuel if you are using it/oem ecu controlling fuel at low rpms. Also check your couplings between the TB and maf.

Can you pull up the proEfi interface and see what it is seeing? Check the timing numbers to see if the sensors are reading properly.

Download the FSM and read the causes of those codes.

Try the crank position sensor. The cam and crank the ecu looks at all 3 at the same time and sometimes it throws the wrong code.

For example on my REVUP my exhaust and intake cam sensors were switched and I was getting crank position sensor code. I went through help trying to figure out the problem

Edit: I don't think if the maf was bad it would throw cam sensor codes. The car is in limp mode because its not getting proper timing pulses from the sensors.

The reason why you are running rich is because ecu is cutting ignition/timing

He is running super rich!

You have a standalone ECU check all wiring make sure no pins are pulling out of the connectors, ect ect. Check for water/moisture around the ECU and passenger floorboard area. Also try connecting the stock ECU directly and clear codes see if they still come back.

I was thinking super rich but typed lean. I'll edut it out thanx. Super rich on no ignition makes more sense than lean lol

check for vacum leak, then check software on proefi to make sure map sensor is reading correctly, then check the plugs. check also ckp sensor.

How do I check to see if the MAP sensor is reading correctly? I’ve got a log but I haven’t been able to upload it (file size…)

It’s from the ProEFI, it’s also puling the Innovative wideband data too. I’d be happy to email it to anyone that wants to take a look.

Try to swap the crank position sensor with the other 350z you mentioned , it will rake you no more than 10 min so you car rule that out

Unfortunately, I think his crankshaft position sensor is dead; his stock block suffered a horrific engine failure a few months ago. I may just pickup a new one after work today and give it a shot tomorrow.

one of the cam position sensors will work for the crank position sensor. Same things.

no it wont , the mounting bolt is in a different location

Theyre they same part number. Go buy a crank position sensor, it will same cam or vice versa.

You have to sort out those cam position sensor codes. With those codes active, cam phasing is not working and the car will run like poop. If the codes suddenly appeared, I would start back tracing and find out what's causing them to appear. It's doubtfull it's a tuning situation, but perhaps a wiring issue or sensor issue. Usually, I don't see codes for both banks when it's a sensor issue, however.

So, I swapped in a crankshaft position sensor from another Z and no luck, still having the same issues.
