576whp Vortech @ 8lbs

Ok, so I never said it was in the 350z but it's still fun to share my other car... 2012 5.0 with a Vortech V3si black edition, stock pulley, boost a pump, 3.73 gears, xpipe and GT500 mufflers. This was done last July...
Of course what is a thread without pictures right!?! This is before the install.

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/bd1c6dd4.jpg
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/bf55e5bc.jpg

Lets get this started shall we? As usual the Walmart ramps are always helpful with a set of chalks for added safety.

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/093056b6.jpg

Removal of the front bumper is a given

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/10e37388.jpg

Got rid of the stock intake. Engine cover, radiator fan and valve covers are removed

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/a2a8445f.jpg
Cutting of the fan shroud is required for the intercooler piping to route properly and the kit provides shields so that's cool

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/3270cbd3.jpg

Vortech mounting bracket is in place

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/e5a4340f.jpg
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/2dd964e5.jpg

There is a good amount of cutting required for the coolant hoses but nobody wants to see that so on with the pictures!

Time for the massive intercooler!
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/62832d7c.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/3bc5bda1.jpg

Pretty happy after mounting the intercooler and seeing the build come together.

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/511289e0.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/2dc133da.jpg

Changed out the injectors with GT500's

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/775e4df3.jpg

After putting on the intake it lookes better and better

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/6f1a08b6.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/37c9b49a.jpg

Loading up the tune took about 10 minutes

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/224724d1.jpg

Once I was good with things I had to cut the rear of the front bumper so the intercooler could fit... It's always good to have a dremel!

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...4/7d3faf2d.jpg

As for gauges I went with Autometer for boost and Aeroforce interceptors to monitor my a/f, coolant temp, AIT. I like those because they just plug into the OBD2 port.

As the car looks in its current state

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...psd0e38ff2.jpg

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4f0a5009.jpg

Now it would be just stupid to have this car and not race it! Drove the car about 10 hours to Louisiana to race my friend... 06 Srt magnum with a procharger. Thing is straight nasty on the streets!

http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0edfe0d8.jpg

Now what's a thread without a video?

herrschaft 04-03-2013 05:37 PM

Haha I didn't even know that guy so I just gave him a random name. He knows the guy who had the magnum and said he was on his low boost tune at the time. I'll be making another video around July/August time so if the civic is still around I'll try and run him too

Triji 04-03-2013 06:08 PM

Hey that dodge sounds like a BEAST but good job not getting your butt kicked by a grocery getter wagon! :) And WTF?? I thought only soccer moms and dudes with mullets drove Mustangs??... (lol) ...

Really very nice

Did I miss your 1/4 time??? Didn't see it.

grimm66 04-03-2013 06:58 PM

1/4 times were crappy we were running high 11's low 12's. I'll have some Mickey Thompsons for the next race day so I can actually get some traction now.

Looks like a good start. Nothing like American V-8 + goodies.

Beast!

Alberto 04-03-2013 08:52 PM

Mad props for sharing pics, some street fun, dyno vids AND track vids. LOL @ the almost lost it though, get used to that $hit, that little sweep out is nothing man.

What exactly were the 1/4 times? 60ft, 1/4 ET and MPH?

How reliable are those Coyote motors at those power levels?

Good stuff, lol at that gay a$$ Civic at the end, I don't care if that thing runs 10's, it sounds like Pedro's weed-wacker. BTW- nice 600RR, lean it over more and get those chicken strips off.

unvmyg35 04-03-2013 10:26 PM

In for the mullet wig!

cars look awesome, I know a guy who laps the sh!t out of his magnum SRT, goes through upper control arm bushings like a junky goes through heroin.

Thanks Alberto, I don't remember the times for anything as this was recorded back in August. I've been trying to find my slips so I can get the numbers... I don't have a track around my area so its the backroads for me until the season starts!

As far as power holding, I've read about 2 engines letting go at 650-700whp. I wont be seeing the those numbers until I upgrade to this http://www.buyfordracing.com/5-0l-do...lly-aspirated/ for safety of course.

Man I used to be all over the bike until I moved to where I am now and seen how these people drive. Like driving the Indi 500 but I'am about to move so the strips will be gone!

bigcloud 04-04-2013 02:42 AM

Thanks for sharing everything OP. I was like WTF 8lbs on a Vortech. You got me! Good driving for your first time there. Come back when you've done more to the Coyote!

BornSlippyZ 04-04-2013 04:34 AM

Gotta admit the title got me! Impressive 'Stang you have op!

grimm66 04-04-2013 07:26 AM

Thanks guys. The car has ran like champ with this blower on for the past 10k mile. The install is pretty easy but time comsuming as most are and you will hear me say in other build threads that it's better to build it yourself so you can fix it if something breaks.

Words of wisdom in the F.I. world for those who seek it. I highly recommend that if you go F.I. have a second car! I still had to run out and get extra tools I needed when this was torn apart. You do not have to be a (professional) to install superchargers or turbos neither as I did mine with tools from Walmart. Just read the instructions thats provided with the kits since thats what most shops do anyway.

I'am sure some have wondered why not just turbo/sc the 350... I thought about that for a little bit, but after learning from others mistakes and seeing how this car performs with F.I. I decided it would not be worth it. Now I love my 350z but it's staying stock for me. $ for $ it will never be as beasty as the 5.0. Some might argue that a Z is more rare but its not... Just as common as mustangs. I actually like a common car though since that means parts are way cheaper .

I plan to keep this thread updated with whatever new mods come along though. If anyone is in the NW part of Florida and wants a run shoot me a message and I'll show you what some V8 power can do haha. Plus it would make good footage for my next video!

OldManZ350 04-04-2013 07:31 AM

Where in NW Florida are you?

grimm66 04-04-2013 08:15 AM

Close to Pensacola.

Alberto 04-04-2013 08:21 AM

You don't remember what it trapped?

andre12031948 04-04-2013 09:08 AM

I believed you

Now that I'm reading more, & just watched & timed you video runs, it looked to me like they were 13 second runs. :)

Alberto 04-04-2013 09:26 AM

I too doubted 11 sec street tire runs.

grimm66 04-04-2013 09:40 AM

The runs in the video were just the best visual ones that made the edit... Unless you wanted to look at the wall or something haha. We had about 12 runs that night since not a lot of cars were racing. I know I had 12.1 and pretty sure I had faster then that. That's why I said high 11's - low 12's.

350Z400rwhp 04-04-2013 01:57 PM

Very impressed with everything! Great video, I thought it was an excellent combo of music, engine sounds with no BS and straight to the fun stuff!

Chris

Resmarted 04-07-2013 03:07 PM

5-OH's are sick. Nice car man. Wish my car was only one weekend of work away from 576whp....

Anyway, looks like the admins missed it, but becareful of talking about street racing or posting videos. It's usually something that will get you introuble on my350z, but the FI section takes the rules and says "Fack It" anyway.

WTFMike 02-18-2014 08:17 AM

Bump!

Hey grimm how's that car holding up? My friend just picked up a '12 GT 5.0, it currently just has an offroad x pipe and axle back mufflers. It's a blast to drive as it is. But, he is considering one of the Beefcake racing Vortech kits. So, I'm just curious if you still in enjoy it and have had any issues pop up. From the research he has done, those coyote motors are holding 600 whp pretty easily.

ps, if this thread can get some traction, i'm in for mullet pics...hahaha

grimm66 02-24-2014 01:38 AM

The car is holding up great and the kit has not given me any problems. I really enjoy it now since I got Mickey Thompsons ET Streets on but i can still spin those in 1st. The engines are good up to 650-700whp but at those numbers I woundn't expect it to last long. I recommend the kit to your friend, is he on svtperformance? Haha the mullet, I haven't forgot about that!

2004Black350z 02-24-2014 01:48 AM

I'm not sure which forum he has been researching on. He was thinking it could have it tuned to around 550whp with that thought that the engine will live longer.

Johnny 5 02-27-2014 06:57 PM

I loved the Coming to America music in the beginning lol. Very nice stang :)
