2005 G35 Coupe 6MT will have LESS tq than auto?
Thats what it said at www.infinitinews.com
It said it in the description and in the specs, so I doubt its a typo I hope it is though |
it's probably a typo...i wouldn't worry about it...
and even if it is....10lbs/ft isn't enough to give up the joy of shifting...:) |
No, it's not a typo. See the thread in the Z Coupe forum about the horsepower difference between the '03 and the '05 Anniversary models. Trust me, you'll be much happier with the 2005 6MT engine.
|
why the lower torque in the sportier model though?
makes no sense unless raising the redline has something to do with it (like the S2000, low torque, 9K redline) |
does the 2005 even come in "6mt"? in the options they have no mention of 6mt, just "manual or auto" and when you try to build a g35coupe they only let you build an auto.
so is the manual in reference to the "manual style shifting"? And i guess the 2005 really doesn't come with brembos anymore? |

Yes, the '05s do come in 6MT. These are not available until sometime in December '04 or January '05 time frame.
Yes, the TQ is slightly lower and I suspect Nissan sacrificed TQ in order to gain the extra HP without doing major engine re-design. HP is for bragging rights, TQ is what gets you going. |

Originally posted by Burrcold Hense why I went with the 04 6MT rather then waiting for the lower TQ on the 05 |
No Brembos either!
|
brembo gone, yet bigger rotors i think, less torque but more usable torque and higher HP so i think the trade of is fine... the brembos on pre 05s are brembos but still not up to track use from what i have read so it was for style anyways...

Sad to see they lowered the torque, and did away with the
Brembo's. I am glad I got an 04 model 6mt! |

The "old" VQ35 is often criticized as being too truck like; it doesn't rev high enough and its top end power is lacking. The 2005 engine addresses both of these problems - it has a higher redline and much better top-end response. Furthermore, the old VQ's con rods are pitiful. They are the main reason why a TT kit cannot be properly installed on our cars without rebuilding the bottom end. Take a look in the the F/I forum and see how many engines have failed due to snapped rods. The 2005 engine's rods don't exactly match up to the beautiful forged pieces that many forum members are installing, but are certainly a much needed improvement. You can at least tell your friend that you've been enjoying your Brembo-equipped car for 2 years longer than he has. But his 2005 engine is better than yours. |

In general, I think it is unfair to compare modified cars with stock cars. In any case, the mods you listed may yield a faster-than-2005-spec G35C, but they do little to address the major complaints about the VQ - that it revs too low and has anemic high-RPM power. A plenum can't match a revised cam profile and a higher redline enabled by stronger valve springs. The upgrades address feel and usability, not just technical performance.
I'm pretty disappointed that the G35C is getting even heavier; after all, weight is one of the main reasons why I am getting rid of mine. At least the 2005 upgrades are turning the VQ into a sporty engine instead of just a torque machine. |
Shivak, I'll be interested to hear what you're replacing the G with.

Probably an S2000. Depending on my financial situation and my need for a more practical car, I might end up with a cool sedan like a CTS-V. The GT-R is a possibility, but I am a bit reluctant to buy another Infiniti and it may end up being too expensive for me.
|
If you think Infinitis are bad be careful with the S2k...most expensive car I've ever owned (which includes several nissan/infinitis and honda/acuras).

they might of dropped the tq, but modified the tq curve so the car doesn't stop pulling halfway up the tach...
would you rather have about 280tq and lose it at around 4k rpm, or about 270 that keeps pulling to redline (an extended redline)? stronger internals and little bump in hp is also a plus... but they're all the same car w/ the same motor in the end.... just bugs me when i hear people say i bought an '04 instead of waiting for an '05 because they have less tq, automatically assuming the new G coupe's peformance is lacking  |
