Default AAM 3 inch Single and Y pipe Review (Pics, Vid)

Well I went up to AAM today around 1000. Walked in and was greeted by Clint and my new exhaust Clint gave me a tour of the place, met Mike, and then rolled out to install. Made it to the shop I use at around 1130. Go figure every bay is taken! I finally get a lift at around 1. Took my old Y off, and then started to bolt everything up.

Just to clarify, I checked all the welds, and everything looked awesome.

The Y pipe is nice, the flex's look really solid. They supplied me with 4 gaskets, but they were all 3", so it didn't sit right on the Y and Test pipes. Luckily the TP's are new, so were the gaskets

Install was damn easy. 8 bolts. Everything lined up perfectly. Once installed, I started it up and popped wood. I love the way it sounds, best of all, NO MORE RASP! I took it out for a drive, and noticed instantly a terrible rattle. I also noticed more top end and a little bit of low end torque, that got me happy . Back to the rattle. The pipe that the resonator is on, clears the under brace by just a little. When moving, and even idling, it hits. Which causes a nasty rattle. I plan on fixing this by loosening everything, holding it up with a brace, and tightening each piece down 1 at a time. That should raise it enough to not hit when moving.

Here are some install pics. Also a video, sorry, it get's dark early.

Here is where the rattle is:

The dark video, with ghetto LCD light shining on the tip

Aaaaaand one that I know all you Mid-A people will be able to spot from a mile away

In the end, I'm VERY VERY happy with it. I don't think I will miss my Apexi one bit. Thanks to Altered for hooking me up, Clint was always there when I had questions. I had absolutely no problems with Mike, very helpful and easy to deal with.

was this review solicited? (just wondering) and if so, did you get a discount for posting this.

Nope, posted on my own. I actually had to ask them for a sticker haha. I just think that if somebody makes a product I like, they deserve credit no matter what their rep.

Yeah man I have always been a fan of them too, I finally bought one, and I love it. Hopefully I will take care of the rattle tomorrow, it shouldn't be too bad. If worst comes to worst I can buy something that wont melt to put in between the brace and the pipe.

I did a quick rear bumped wanna be mod too, zip ties haha, I'll have to do it right eventually:

Your not alone with the rattle. I have the exact same problem with the rattling at the same spot. I think this is very common with the 3' single exhaust. The shop have tried to adjust the piping ,but to no avail. He ended up using some kind of rubber piece wrapped in between the exhaust to reduce the rattling. It works, but you will still hear the exhaust rattle. I will eventually use some kind of foam in between to further reduce the rattle. BTW, very nice looking single....

Well everybody I fixed the rattle today. I did what I stated in the OP. Loosened all the bolts and then raised each component one at a time and tightened down again. Rattle is completely gone!!

Another way to eliminate the rattle is to put some washers on the bolts between the frame and the brace, effectively moving the brace down just a bit. This can be done without fully removing the brace. If I remember correctly just had to remove the foward four bolts and could slide the (taped together) washers in. I think I stacked 3 or 4 washers to do the trick. It seems this is a very common problem with aftermarket exhausts, even the Nismo.

Nice exhaust and great pics.

fold the middle up and throw a couple screws through it i think. No cutting is necessary.
