I'm in the market for an exhaust system (someone want to sell me one?)
I'm waiting for my APS Twin Turbo kit for my 03 350z Track Edition.
I obviously need an exhaust system now. I'm leaning towards Borla "true dual", but this may not necessarily be the "best" way to go. I'm not looking for obnoxious sound or anything, so if the maiun selling point of a kit you'd suggest is "loud" then that is not the kit for me. I'm also under the impression that a FI engine generates less noise in regards to exhaust, but that too may be incorrect. Let me know! |
personally i would do a y pipe back exhaust (rsr or topspeed pro1) and then due a big free flowing 3in y pipe and then do test pipes...you will have a great mean sound and also really good flow...true duals arnt always the best way to go...just my .02 cents

I won't be doing test pipes as I'd like to stay legal, and I need th sound to be in line with what the stock exhaust is doing Of course at the top end of things, I don't care how loud it gets as I'm sure my exhaust decibel level will be the least of my problems in the event of authoritative attention. I already get enough attention with the car as it is from our local authorities. Just in the last couple days I have had a few "top end runs" where I'm 130+ and my car sounded great, both times I had a passenger who was able to focus on the periphial experiences. So from what I understand, a FI engine will actually be less noisy than a NA engine. Before I decided to go FI I was going to do a Y pipe upgrade... Thanks again |
FI is generally quiter. The Y-pipe back exhaust (RSR, Invidia, 5zigen) are all really loud and I would assume that even with FI it will still be very loud. The stillen exhaust is fairly quite. According to Sport Z Magazine the stock exhaust at 3000 rpm is 89db, the stillen is 93, the nismo is 95 and the borla is 92, the old injen was 99 but the new one is a little quiter but still probably like 97 or 98. The RSR wasn't listed, but I have it and would say it is like 105 or something, it is damn loud. If you went with RSR you would need to run the silencers to keep it quite, then you would be around 93 or so.

My combo is extremely quiet (Ultimate high flow cats, Ultimate Y pipe (biggest Y pipe on the market), Fujitsubo cat back.
I too wanted something not loud, and this has worked out beautifully for me, and gave much better performance than stock. Another "not loud" exhaust worth checking out is the Apexi World Sport, though on my NA setup, the Fujistubo has performed better by seat of the pants evaluation Adam |

IMHO the Tanabe SM-R and JIC Y-PIpe would be the best way to go for a turbo set up...
look at the collector in the y-pipe and the splitter in the tanabe... SMOOOOOOOOOTH... Largest diamaters to get all that pressure outta there... http://www.performancenissanparts.co...ages/YPIPE.jpg http://www.performancenissanparts.co...es/tb3603z.jpg PM me and iLl set you up with some pricing ;) |
Greddy T/T with Greddy Sp2's wouldnt be a bad combo *wink*

T Y pipe and cats def give a much bigger gain than the cat back
problem with Tanabe is the noise...its one of the loudest exhausts out there |

Now I need to confirm the configuration somehow between performance and noise. I'm looking into the recomended products today, if anyone has anything else to suggest, please do. thanks again, |
if your getting a twin turbo kit, I would only look at exhaust's that are 2.5" duals so you get maximum flow. Losts of duals on the market are 2.25" which will be a weakness on a twin turbo car. I know the Stillen is 2.5 and so is my DC. Not sure about others on the market. BTW the APS system is 2.5" too.
