I messaged the seller to inquire if he would sell the heads and pistons. after a few PMs we moved over to text messages, and we agreed upon $280 shipped for the heads and $170 shipped for the pistons.
i sent payment a couple of days and asked him to make sure proper packaging procedures and materials were used to which he responded, "yea im a freak about bad shipping everything will b properly padded and secure."
a week later consisting of delays, failing to reply to messages, and still not providing tracking, the parts were shipped. i know this only because the seller called me to attempt to collect additional money to cover his shipping costs.
when the boxes arrived they were in rough condition. in hindsight i should not have accepted them but i was taking him at his word that the parts were properly packaged... they were not.
i photo-documented the removal of parts and the damages they sustained, most likely during shipping, due to the poor nature of the packing. the boxes also contained the valve covers, camshafts, connecting rods, broken rod bolts, and used head bolts despite my specifically requesting only pistons/wrist pins and cylinder heads. all extra parts merely added unnecessary weight and dimension to the packages.
i immediately contacted the seller and sent him pictures of the more severe destruction of the parts, ie: scored/scratched/dented pistons making them useless and spark plug tubes crushed by cylinder heads not being properly insulated or secured. his response was to "send them back" and he would refund me the money minus $150 for HIS shipping costs. in essence, his mistake would cost me up to $300 and him nothing.
i told him this was unacceptable and asked him if he paid for insurance (why would someone spend $150 on shipping and not purchase insurance),.he ceased all communication. i gave him another week to reply and then filed a paypal dispute, NOT a claim.
upon notification from paypal the seller escalated the dispute to a claim and immediately began texting me profusely using vulgar language and threats of physical harm demanding i return his parts, that i was scamming him, etc. i informed him that all further discussion would be completed through the paypal resolution center.
in the pprc i offered the seller a deal. he was to return my $170 for the destroyed pistons that were unsuable as well as $80 for parts and repair to the cylinder heads. that amounts to $450 - 150 shipping - 170 pistons - 80 parts = $50. his other option was for me to return the parts as requested and he would suffer being out the $150 for shipping and the $450 paypal would remove from his account. in short, he could be up $50 or out $600
his rebuttal in the pprc was to agree with me that the parts were poorly packed, that it was my fault i didn't want to pay freight (shipping was up to him as we agreed on a shipped price), claim to pay $175 in shipping (initially told me 150, USPS shipping labels indicate seller actually payed about 140), and assert i was scamming him because i waited two weeks to file a dispute (the 1 week it took him to ship and the other i gave him as a courtesy to respond).
paypal said i needed to return all parts to receive a refund. i PROPERLY packed and shipped the damaged items just to be a smart-ass... and still payed almost 25% less than he did. i could have saved even more if i had used someone other than USPS but i was making a point.
please make sure he does not sell these parts to someone else. if you need evidence of the damage cause by his negligence pm me your email and i will gladly supply the pictures i have.
