My handbrake does'nt hold very well
My handbrake does'nt hold very well - has anyone had a problem in this area? I have really pull it on very hard to get it to hold the car on a slope - I would'nt want to try it out in San Francisco!!! (having just had a holiday there - pretty steep streets - I believe the law is you have to turn your wheels in when parking!!
Is it adjustable? If so how? |
Mine too. It feels like it's going to rollback at any second when I park on a slope. Has anyone talked to the dealer about this?

Check this thread. You're not alone.
If the car is new, and you've only had it for a day or two, you should notice that it does grip a little bit better after some use... But it still won't be 'normal'. If you parking on a slope, put it in gear to be safe. If it is that much of a problem for you, I'd take it into the dealer asap for adjustment. If not, you may want to wait until your first service after your break-in period and get it adjusted then. |
Same here!

ask the dealer to adjust it. mine is much better now. i dont have to pull the handle up as hard or as far now. however, it still rolls back an inch before it "grabs hold"

yes its normal.. all cars do it.. just pull the e-brake about 6-8 clicks as it says in the manual. Also, leave it first or reverse when parking on a hill just to be on the safe side. I have a habit of putting it in gear everytime i park. Plus its less stress on the brakes too.

I notice it too on my Z. I wonder if "weak" e brake is a common thing among performance cars. My other 2 cars in the past(both were stick shift): Bimmer 3 series had the same problem; in my '99 Nissan Pathfinder, the opposite. e brake is as strong as a mule. Consider how heavy the SUV was, the Pathfinder wouldn't move at all when i parked at an incline of about 30 degrees (e brake only).
BTW, anyone know when the Pathfinder Armada is going to be hitting the showroom? |
I bet you its seld adjusting.... just go in reverse about 2-4mph and pull up on the e-brake a couple of times and it will get tighter...
