Dealer bs'ing?
After driving aggressively for a little bit, sometimes I hear a "rattling/tin can with rocks" noise near the transmission. I can only hear it when it's in 1st and 2nd gear on low RPMs. Also, the tincan sound is the loudest when I turn the car off.
I had this checked out by 2 NISSAN Dealerships but both say that the sound is normal and the car is perfectly fine. I don't know if they are BSing to avoid fixing the car ( I have PowerTrain warranty) or it's that dual flywheel or the natural loud transmission noise that a lot of 06 350Z have. Your input is very appreciated, Thanks |
It's sounds like clutch chatter, and the noise it makes when you turn it off sounds like the exhaust cooling down. Both normal.
|
I could not tell you unless I drove the car.
|
Yep clutch chatter or aftermarket fly wheel. The low rpm noise in 1st and 2nd suggests a lightweight aftermarket flywheel.
|
I was wondering what that is.
Mine sounds as though it occurs from the High flow cats almost like a recoil effect. |
everyone says its a normal sound, but its so loud and its bothering the hell out of me. ugh.
|
Normal.
|
My '06 does it too. Scared the poopies right out of me the first time I heard it, but I have checked and re-checked everything. Clutch is still WELL within factory spec for wear, and cats/heat shields are all tight.
Just a normal noise it makes. Just rev higher or get a louder exhaust. :D |
I have this issue too.

Saw in another thread where the lash between the gears in the transmission is what causes the noise, but it quiets down tremendously at 2k-ish RPMs. Coincides with what I've found on my car, at least.
ETA: Post I found this info: https://my350z.com/forum/8471455-post15967.html |
Video of the sound? Can help maybe.
|
i will try to post up the videos
can the throw out bearing be covered under powertrain warranty? |
I wouldn't trust the dealer to change my tires..
