New Key, unlocks but won't start

Hey All,

I just got a new flip key + remote for my 2007 350z. I was able to program it and get the key cut no problem but when I go to start the starter gets going but no engine turnover. I use my old key and it works fine. The new key is working for unlock/lock of doors etc... Any idea what's going on?

Thanks!
-Will

search threads. our keys have transponders, without this the car will not start..

There's a mobilizer in the OEM key, you can have it removed and placed into your new key if your new key has the area for it.

Ah thanks, I had assumed the flip I bought had that inside already. I just tried holding the old key right next to the new one when I turn it and that works, I guess I will have to open the old key and dig out the transponder. Looks like that's in the guide here:

If anyone has more tips/pics on this that might help. Hopefully I don't break it!

Be careful, otherwise you'll be spending close to $200 for a replacement key. I broke my key off cleanly once while trying to turn it in the ignition, even though the transponder didn't seem to be impacted, the immobilizer set in and I was forced to have the car towed and buy a new one.

Success! It turns out the flip key did have a transponder but it wasn't sync'd with my car. Did not feel like paying to have the dealer do it so I swapped my old transponder from the old key.

I had to use an exacto to open the old key just cutting through the glue and separating the two sides it was really easy.

I swapped the transponder into the new one

and it's working beautifully! :)

Ah also forgot:
I got the key cut at home depot for free, the guy and his boss both said they wouldn't do it but then he ended up doing it anyways (his boss was pissed). If you are trying to find somewhere to do it you can say your friend got it done there, the key is normal and they have the right slot but they get stressed cutting car keys because they think they are so expensive. Didn't cost me anything!

+1, that flip is sweet! Was it hard to program the remote?

Remote programming was super easy. Get in the car, lock the doors, put the key in and out 7 times, turn to ACC, hit a button on the remote, hazards will flash, turn off. Done.

I got the flip key and since I only have one key that came with the car, I got a buddy/locksmith in Houston to program my transmitter to work on my car.

They have to hook up a computer to the ECU and program the new flip keys transmitter code into it.

Thank you sir, totally helped me get mine all set. Some of the newer flip keys come apart a little different now. Mine for an example once you take the tiny screw out pulls apart from end to end, then the tip where the blade itself is snaps in half. Luckily it still had a little groove where the transponder fit perfectly.

Ok,,,

this is probably a stupid question, but when you program the key switchblade key, does it program the hatch release as well as the panic button?

Yes, mine did.
