stock bose radio not working

I just bought an '08 350z and the Bose radio isn't working. It turns on, let's you adjust the volume and change the station but I don't get any sound. I took the radio out yesterday to look for anything obvious and when I was finished the radio worked perfect...one time. Shut the car off and back on and now I'm getting no sound again. Any ideas before I take it to a professional audio shop?

TThat's a very odd problem.. are you sure everything is right in the connector ( back of head unit)?

check the amp back by the spare.... may or may not be the issue... sounds like you have a random short somewhere. get a cheap speaker and tap it into the wires coming directly off the radio before the amp, see if you get sound... do the same thing after the amp...

Does this change anything...I unplugged the battery for about an hour last night to try and "reboot" the headunit. After hooking everything back up the radio worked. It worked last night, and this morning but once I got to work and shut my car off I wanted to see if it would continue to work but unfortunately when I turned it back on, nothing again. Could a weak battery cause this issue? I doubt it but I'm grasping at straws. Lastly, i tried to get to the amp to check it but I couldn't figure out how to get the plastic piece removed that is on the left side of the spare. I took the spare tire out and all the carpet but I couldn't dislodge that last piece of plastic. Do i need to remove additional pieces first?

Thanks!

Question: If the H/U or car is tuned off for awhile, does it begin working again?

My issue was the head unit not powering on, and the cause was a blown fuse in the engine bay.

Seems that way, but it's not really consistent. After work yesterday I drove to target with no radio, when i came back out of target to drive home the radio worked again. Very unpredictable. The only thing so far that has been consistent is that if the radio doesn't work the first time I turn it on then turning the car off and on repeatedly doesn't seem to help.

Possible to fix or does it need to be replaced?

you could see if you can find an electronic repair place close to you... it is like 40-50 to diagnose it

:dunno: Without actually testing the system, I can only guess.

I agree with travlee9374

It’s probably a short that is causing the Bose amps to go into safe mode (shut down). After things cool down, the amps begin working again. That’s a guess., but I cannot think of anything else that would be as random as you describe.
