Gear with 100+ shot and DR's?

I'm giving some serious thought to seeing how a 4.0 gear with a 100+ shot and DR's works out. I'm well aware of the possibility of never getting traction ever again, lol.

Has anyone actually tried it, though?

i have 4.083 gears and just installed a nitrous kit with 100 shot...still need a tune, but i'll let you know

03threefiftyz Aug 27, 2009 01:24 PM

You would be well into 5th if this is a stock redline DE in the 1/4 mile. I wouldn't do it. 3.9 with a 7000 redline would be a far as I would go. They make a 3.7 as well. Personally, I would stick with the stock 3.5. Even with a 28" DR will mean that shift into 5th with the 4.08.

Its beyond the scope of human comprehension!

+1 on what 03threefiftyz said.

When you're spraying, gears won't benefit you at all. Stick with the stock 3.5.

I have been seriously thinking about the 3.7. The stock gearing is just a little too weaksauce.

What size wheel/tire? Try running a 26" DR and that will shorten it up a small bit and take you near red line in 4th at the end of the 1/4. Avoid any gearing that would make you go into 5th. Since you are on a 100 shot......I would stick with stock.

3hree5ive0ero Aug 30, 2009 07:00 PM

Yep, I have 26" ET Streets and spray 100 shot. I end at either the very end of 4th or start of 5th right now.

However, I disagree with the "avoid any gearing that would make you go into 5th" statement above. You don't know exactly where the sensors are at the end of the strip. However, you should know that there are two sensors used to obtain your trap speed, as it is the average of the measured speed of both sensors. Thus, to stop at 4th and then let off, knowing that you could still be potentially driving through those two sensors -- placed 60' from each other, I believe -- would be a dumb move. However... I guess if you raised your redline, the above doesn't apply as much, although the concept still does.

BTW, I don't see some of you guys on our Top 25 list. ;)

Are you still running stock 6600 red line?

Yeah, I don't have a tune or a reflash.

03threefiftyz Aug 30, 2009 07:14 PM

What width are your 26" Et streets out of curiousity? Sorry to jack your thread OP.......

3hree5ive0ero Aug 30, 2009 07:19 PM

26x10.5x15

03threefiftyz Aug 30, 2009 07:26 PM

Cool.....I am picking up some 275/50/15 MT DR's and Welds.......hoping to cure my traction problems (which are immense at the moment).

absurdparadox Aug 30, 2009 09:34 PM

LOL no worries on thread-jacking. All good info!

Great points on the redline/gearing issues -- I'm still locked into thinking as if I'm driving my old 3000gt -- 118mph in third gear, lol.

Actually it's 66' :icon39:. I'll have some slips for you shortly I hope. Weather is starting to get cooler here on the east coast.

I can understand your view on 5th, but it is safe on DE to go to 7000....even 7200 and too me that is a better solution that having to make an extra shift.

I should mention my current set-up doesn't use nitrous, but I thought I would chime in with some common sense. :D. I might spray it soon though.....we'll see.

I am sure that even at 6600 a 28" ET street would keep you from going into 5th since that would add ~3-4mph at 6600 in 4th.

Truthfully it is personal preference and what works best for the individual....With all that said, debate on such subjects is the only way to expand ones "horizons" and knowledge. I respect your opinion on the matter though being as you have put forth the effort on the track.

3hree5ive0ero Aug 31, 2009 12:07 AM

No, I completely agree with what you said. My viewpoint was strictly from someone who doesn't have a tune. Of course, if that somebody had a tune, it would be prudent to do what you stated above.

Hostetler Sep 5, 2009 09:28 PM

What offset are the wheels that you are using...Ive been looking at 15's but idk what will work on the 350z

03threefiftyz Sep 5, 2009 09:32 PM

5.5" backspacing 25mm offset. Clears non brembo's without issue.

Hostetler Sep 5, 2009 09:45 PM

Awesome! thank you for the quick reply sir :)

03threefiftyz Sep 5, 2009 09:51 PM

What size DR or slicks do you intend to run?
