It's official - ZONC admits the G coupes & GTR - with Video
Well it's here the New Year and ZONC has made it official that the G coupes and GTR is now part of their family.
Take a look at their new home page; it now has the Infiniti logo. And they did up a little video for 2009 and welcoming the new models to the club. Enjoy! http://zonc.org/index.html The video: ZONC - Z Owners of Northern California http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHAcat4c5CE . |
I understand the admission of the G's being they share the same platform, but the GTR? I'm sure they're orgainzing their own club.
|
GTR Club? very well could be. I am not up on all the clubs criteria for admitting the GTR to a club that has been mostly for Z’s, Datsun 510 and roadster.
|
Im sure the GTR's would rather have there own club
|
There was a post on here a few months ago where someone was complaining that clubs should be inclusive and not exclude other cars, especially when they share the same platform.
The topic was specifically related to someone who owned a G and went to the ZONC Annual Blackhawk Car Show and they were angry that they couldn't enter their car in the "Z" car show. If I remember, it became a very ugly ***** session that distilled down to, "the club should be run the way I want it too" but I'm not interested in participating to help make any changes. I'm wondering if anyone that was complaining about how ZONC is run was actually involved in facilitating the change in the ZONC constitution that now allows G Coupes and the GTR. I wonder how long it's going to be before people who own G Sedan's start complaining since "It's the same platform, just with 4 doors!"? |

I remember reading bits and pieces at the tail end of the thread, and it carried over to ZONC’s next event posted up. I did not know nor want to know all the details, but you are right it got pretty bitter. I am sure the person that was heated (G owner) had nothing to do directly with ZONC changing their constitution. The vote was only by members and the individual was not a member. Not to say that the issue brought up at BlackHawk may have indirectly had an impact on the board proposing a change, although I think it was on the table way before BlackHawk. Good point on the G sedans. A ZONC member and friend of mine that does not post here on a regular basis is really better than I am with the details of the move by ZONC. Paging - inqui-Z-tor, would inqui-Z-tor please pick up the courtesy phone in the main hall.....lol Btw: I am a ZONC member; I joined along with the bro at BlackHawk. |
I've known some ZONC members for awhile. Heard about that Blackhawk thing. Also I believe ZONC had been planning changes long before that Blackhawk event.
There was a ZONC picnic I went to, all G's, GTR's welcomed (might of even been a 'welcome all' event can't remember). That was when ZONC members where to vote on these long ago planned changes. I saw the ballot with my own eyes and can confirm that G35 sedans were also on that ballot along with coupes and the GTR. Point is, sedans were also considered and not given the cold shoulder. ZONC has been around for a long time and is well respected official club. I'm honored to be allowed into their organization now and would've respected their voting decision if I were not. I endorse the additional Nissan sports cars allowed, with only exception that I feel the sedans belong too. Maybe the sedan didn't make it by vote due to being a four door, while all others allowed are only two. Have not a clue why the vote went the way it did. 510's and rare Roadsters have been allowed for some time with all the Z's in ZONC. Times must change if you wish to continue growing into the future. I am now a ZONC member as a G35 owner. |
Nicely worded John thanks!
So for the video, I have seen it about 10 times now and it gets better with every viewing. Great job on the production!

1. ZONC is now comprised of Datsun/Nissan Z cars; the Datsun roadster; the Datsun 510; Infiniti G35/G37 sports models and the GT-R.
My understanding there are at least 1-G35, G37 and a GT-R already "registered" members of ZONC. 2. The G-sedans were on the ballot. 3. To address what happened in the past that lead up to these changes isn't important to discuss AT THIS forum. |

So why couldnt said bitcher/moaner start something for G's if he felt left out, instead of acting like a child. its a different car. its a Z show. I think its great that there is a club for the Z guys and its nice that they've welcomed the G's and GT-R's and i have nothing against the 2 cars at all, but they shouldnt have to change how their club is because there are people that cant organize their own group and maybe work groups together but still do their own seperate things. jesus christ, people need to grow up :icon22: |
I do not know the details of what happened with the individual, nor want to know. It’s in the past and the club has amended their constitution. As far as I am concerned it's a mood subject and water under the bridge.

I'm done here....later.... |
^Same here, this was suppose to be a celebration and commentary on the video, not the politics nor drama that happened in the past.

I wonder how many different commercials were spliced into making this video?
|
Also a nice selection of music, David Bowie - Sound and Vision.

If I remember, it became a very ugly ***** session that distilled down to, "the club should be run the way I want it too" but I'm not interested in participating to help make any changes. It's perhaps a bit more complex than some of you made it out to be. There are three sides to the story. My side (since it was indeed me involved), ZONC's side, and the truth. I'll just say that from my side, I went up there full well knowing that I was not registered in the event, nor did I want a parking spot in the event. I asked (in a polite manner) the event director why G35's were not allowed in (I admit, I was unaware of this ZONC policy), and was quite rudely told that not only were G's not welcome, but that they would never be welcome (obviously, this part has since changed). Along with the outright rudeness (which the event director later denied), there was quite an undertone of hostility. Not sure what triggered it, but I can say with all honesty, in my honor as a US Marine (and I mention that to try and show that I am disclosing the whole truth, rather than shading it one way or another) that I was quite polite, and did not complain, nor try and start an arguement with the event director, nor any other person at the show, despite the rudeness and hostility I was shown. Unfortunately, I was really pissed off about it, and I vented on these message boards. People that were not involved at all immediately jumped to ZONC's defense, assuming that neither ZONC, nor any person involved could do any wrong whatsoever, and that it must have been me that was the jerk. Those people were wrong, but hey, there is probably no way to convince them of that. There were also a couple of people that sent some pretty insulting PM's, but hey, it's pretty easy to be an anonymous internet tough guy. Regardless, I'm glad to see ZONC took this action, and sometime in this new year, I will probably travel up to a ZONC event, and try and apologize for causing such problems. I'm wondering if anyone that was complaining about how ZONC is run was actually involved in facilitating the change in the ZONC constitution that now allows G Coupes and the GTR. |

But in hindsight of all this, perhaps we shall meet someday at a ZONC event and this all will be 100% forgotten. It's :horse: in my book... |
