Talk about COLD, last night in Dallas it was freezing cold.
Got back to Houston at about 5 am, so I woke up late.
Good thing I did not take that trip to SA...
I feel for you guys that went up there, and then told NO SHOW.

Sorry to those who came out, but the event had to be canceled due to extremely harsh conditions (30 degree weather with 40 mph cross winds). The conditions were too dangerous for racers and too harsh for spectators and car show contestants. IFO will not host a car show where people will spend the entire day waiting in their cars and NOTHING can be setup for extra activities because it will only get blown away/damaged. Even the STEEL barrels used to tape off the car show area were being blown down the pits.
There is no possible way to give prior notice for last minute date changes or cancellations due to weather. IFO has learned to NEVER cancel shows premature because of what the weather forecast says days before, even the night before. It's 10x worse to cancel a show because of a bad forecast to later find out the weather is fine (has happened to IFO before).

If it's too dangerous for people to race & show, it's understandable. A lot of people incurred expenses b/c of this, but don't think IFO didn't lose money either.
It's a lose/lose situation for everyone, but it's better than having people wreck while racing on the track b/c of winds.

The general public can not fathom the amount of time, work, and money the promotion loses when an event is canceled. Canceling is the absolute last thing IFO wants to do, but unfortunately weather is not something that can be controlled. ...some people can not understand this for some reason.

Let us clear up a few things at this moment. There is a difference between whining and complaining. Those, such as myself that had invested days of preparation, spent hard earned money on hotel accomodations, spent hard earned money on fuel, and spent their vacation work time have every right to complain. We have every right to voice our opinion. What may not have incurred a great loss for you personally, does not give you the right to dismiss other individual's losses.
Granted, IFO may have had large stakes in this event and a lot to lose, but the same goes for show participants. The numbers may be on a higher level, but ratio wise, each has suffered a great loss. As a participant, out of pocket money means food off my table. Until the day comes when an outside individual pays my bills, the right for them to judge what is and what isn't a loss for me is of no importance.
With regards to weather I would assume that everyone would do their homework in anticipation of such climates. I for one did my homework. Large cynder blocks to anchor the tents from gusty winds. Kept up with the weather days in advance to anticipate gusty winds and the cold front. Extra clothing to keep warm independent of the vehicle. It was no mystery how the weather was going be. The morning of, it was chilly. 47 degrees to be exact. As the day progressed, temperatures were going to rise upwards in the 50's. I believe with preparation, the show could have gone on. The racing, understandably, wind conditions posed an obvious safety hazard.
Either way, I am still personally upset with the time, preparation, and money I personally loss for this show and will voice my opinion accordingly...

Don't get me wrong Val. I agree with you. I spent most of my Saturday washing/detailing my car. Bought some warmer clothing. Woke up early and drove up Sunday. I wasn't happy to just turn around as soon as I arrived. But what can I do? Come onto a forum and complain about something that was out of IFO's hand, weather? I was all for staying and having the show w/o the race event. But then racers would complained that thy invested time/money to be turned away. Can't please everyone. And sadly there are those people that bitch just to bitch.
Let's all hope for better weather Jan 18th @ Baytown.

absolutely no amount of weight could have anchored any tent on that day, frames brake/fabric tears (speaking from tons of experience after hosting 70+ events since 2001) and no amount of extra clothes could have made the conditions bearable because of the 40 mph winds. Some people do not realize how harsh the conditions really were because they were waiting inside their cars, or behind the entry gate which blocked the wind. Anyone, especially IFO crew can handle the cold, but the winds across the bare track parking lot were literally blowing us off our feet.
I would trust your judgement, on the wind factor based on your experience. Perhaps I was being optimistic. Can one really be blamed for wanting to hold on to any little string of hope? I can man up and face the realization that conditions were not favorable, by a long shot. However, I personally am still bitter over the entire ordeal. To add insult to injury, the seemily uncanny, untactful, lack of sympathizing manner in which I was told the show was cancelled made all the worse. Many of us are not children or hobbyist, merely adding on a few stickers and bolts-ons to our daily drivers, calling them show cars. There are many, such as myself, that commit much time, effort, and money into the sport. So I would hope it would be taken into consideration when handing down such judgements as the one that was handed down on Sunday morning.
On a bright note, will I get over this? Of course. Once again, I will looking foward to competing in January. Thankfully the coming show will be on home turf...
