Wink DIY - 4th brake light I built for my 370Z - install walkthrough + photos

Long time guest lurker on here since my 350z days, finally got around creating an account and posting. I've had my 370z for over 4 years now and one of the cheaper mods that was always available was the 4th brake light, but all of them looked the same and I wanted to have something different and unique, so I ended up designing and hand-building my own. Figured I'd share the install since I purposely made it plug and play so the install is slightly different from the generic option.

What's in the kit: the brake light itself + a plug-and-play wiring harness. Tools needed: 10mm and 8mm socket, a trim removal tool (or flathead), and thread locker if you've got it — not required but recommended so the mounting nuts don't work loose over time.

TLDR without instructions:
Remove OEM fog light
Remove boot trim
Take out one tail light
Unplug tail light, plug in harness
Fit 4th brake light and plug in
Install everything else back in place

The install:

1. Pull the 4 clips holding the metal bracket behind the fog light, then the 2 nuts and the fog light plug — the fog light comes out, the plastic bracket stays, it's reused for the new light. If you have an OEM fog light, you also need to unplug it here and tie the plug up somewhere, it won't be used.

2. In the boot: You need to remove the boot trim from the back and one side, I prefer to use the passenger side (AU model - left side). Pull the boot trim clips, then take out the carpet/false floor and peel back the rubber moulding for access.

3. Remove the centre trim by popping up the 4 hidden tabs and pull out the side panel (this is held in by one clip that is exposed after removing the centre trim. It takes some force to pull out so take your time and be careful, I suggest pulling from the bottom while holding the far back side and near the front). This exposes the 8mm nut holding the tail light which can now be removed.

4. There is a trim on top of the tail light, remove this to expose 2 x 10mm bolts which need to be removed to take out the tail light.
Pull trim up from the top, remove exposed bolts and pull tailight outwards in the same direction as the back of the car

5. Disconnect the tail light plug, connect the new harness, and run it down through to the rear bumper. Reinstall the tail light, mount the new brake light into the fog light bracket - don't overtighten the nuts, a little more than hand tight should be fine. I highly recommend using a threadlocker here to prevent vibrations from loosening the bolts. Loctite is always good.

Plug the harness into each side of the connector. No need to cut wires or anything. Run the other cable down the hole circled to reach the fog light location

6. Reinstall everything by following the instructions in reverse.

Took me about 10 minutes start to finish. Genuinely one of the easier mods I've done on this car, most of the time is trim removal, not the light itself.

Here it is lit up, bright enough to stand out but not overpowering. It's a very subtle mod but one I'm very happy with. There's also an RGB version which has a different install process but includes a lot more functions and of course, showmodes.

I make these myself in small batches in Australia (zstyleauto on IG if you want to see more builds) - happy to answer any install questions in the thread, and if anyone's local-ish to me and wants to see one in person before buying, just shout.
