I'm in big trouble...
Hi everyone, I work at Sherwin-Williams paint store and make 10 bucks an hour... That was ok b/c i was getting ALMOST 40 hours a week. Recently, the manager hired a new person and my hours got cut down to the 20's... My car payment is $400 a month and about $250 a month for car insurance...
I have no college, but i'm enrolled. I really really don't wanna sell my car or trade it back in. Can someone in then Atlanta or Gwinnett give me some advice or job openings? I've been searching everywhere and thrown my resume around. I'm in desperate need of a job, or else I might not be a Z driver for too much longer... |
Sell your after market parts and keep searching gl bro
|
LinkedIn, Facebook, yahoo, careerbuilder..check w local state as well....it doesnt aid you by telling you your car costing nearly 50% of your net income does not make for a good idea brother, you may need to downsize :(
|
Damn dude why are your payments so high? My payments are $170 a month on a 10k loan and my insurance is $600 a year for full coverage and thats with 2 tickets both within 3 months of eachother and both busting the limit by over 15mph. If you were or if you have any family that was in the military father, grandfather, great grandfather ect you qualify for USAA coverage they do loans thats who mine is through switching to them dropped my Z06's insurance from $1200 a year to round $800 for full coverage
|
for someone who was only making $10/hr you definitely had a lot of monthly expenses. i just got out of college couple yrs ago and i'm not even paying that much for my Z. try asking your family or relatives or neighbors for help. maybe they can find some PT/FT positions wherever they work at
|
age has a huge roll in insurance premiums.
at any rate, dealership lot attendants make okay money and most of the time its full time. go apply |
I feel you on this OP, my insurance is $230 a month and I've lately been thinking about selling the Z for some financial leeway. It's a hard decision to make!
|
It's cause i'm only 20. And I have USAA insurance. Army Strong. 12R.

people who cant afford to live a lavish lifestyle and want to show off to their friends shouldnt be driving car that has a high payment and high insurance rate... This is why we are in the recession.. People buying sh!t on money they dont have.
Sell the car, get a Hyundai or cheap beater on Craigslist. Use that car to find your new job. Then when you are financially stable, get another Z and enjoy it without worries like this. |
I just put the Z in my dads name I'm covered to drive it he's in his 60's thats why my insurence is so low might think about putting the car and policy in a parents or grandparents name
|
Food, roof, Z... choose 2.
|
You already know the answer to your problem op. now go get rid of the car.
|
$250 for insurance? With USAA? You must have a horrible driving record. Usually USAA has pretty good rates :dunno:
|
Unless you people didn't start driving until you were 25.. Having a car under your name, meaning you OWN insurance under the age of 25, is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, regardless of company. I pay about $1200 every 6 months with USAA, vs my quote with State Farm, which would have been almost $4000 every 6 months... So YES USAA is AWESOME! When I'm 25, it'll be more around what you guys are paying. A lil more or a lil less, but you guys are missing the point. The whole point is an option that does NOT involve selling my car... This is the one car I've wanted ever since I was little. There was no other car I had in mind. Im crazy, I wouldn't even trade my Z for an R8... I KNOW! I LOVE MY CAR!!!
|
Youre not entitled to the car just because you wanted it since you were "little". If you can't pay the note/insurance, you really should move onto another car.
Get a beater car which would give you 0 payment and reduce your insurance rate significantly. Save up for a while and then maybe get back into a 350z. |
Most of these guys are giving you good advice op, yes the truth is hard to swallow but that is what it means to be a responsible adult. Get a car you can afford while you find another job/jobs. I have gotten rid of cars I loved so I could move to another part of CA. I did not have a job where I was going so I needed some cash so I can live till I found another job.

Making 400$ a week is not nearly enough to own a car costing a whole week's pay plus more than half of another for insurance. seriously, this is exactly what is screwing up the economy: feeling of entitlement. "i deserve this car". I'm not ragging on you but in all honesty I bought my car outright after i had enough money and I don't owe on anything but my house. When i came back to medical school and went back on a budget because i don't have that 60k a year income from the hospital i cut back big time. I don't have internet at my house, cut back my cell phone bill, no tv, drive a 1200$ truck so my car can stay in the garage. You know what you have to do. Get rid of it, live within your means and finish school. You will appreciate your stuff more after all your hard work. It's not good to get over your head in debt while you are young and screw up the next 10 years of your life trying to climb out of a hole. Look at your other finances as well. 100$ a month phone bill, 80$ a month tv, 40$ a month internet at the house. These are all luxury that can be eliminated easily. |
You already know...

Save your money, go to college or a trade school, get a good job and enjoy life. Don't pile up dept and kill your credit just to have a freekin car, it's not worth it ever. I went through a similar situation just last December. It sucked to sell the car but believe me, having financial security and being able to save/provide for my fiancee and myself is much more rewarding than the z ever was. It was the best decision I have made in my adult life. |
