Default "Let's buy FRS radio together" thread

It looks like there are quite a few people that still do not have a FRS radio.

This is a must for caravaning - such as for the Santa Barabara cruise and other upcoming canyon runs.

These Motorola Talkabouts can be purchased at any local electronics stores such as Best Buy, Frys and etc.

Since you basically need only one but they sell them in pairs, I figured a thread where people can find someone else to share the cost with my be in order. I don mean to name names here... but just for the sake of convinience, people like nismo33, desiZ, sein to name a few are looking for a FRS raido.

So... start puttin your names up and get matched up here.

is there gonna be a group buy on this I might have an extra one if i can find it and let someone barrow it for the cruise. but it's one of those cheap ones that you buy for $40 a pair i think.

well, that sounds like a great idea to do a group buy but i don think there are that many ppl who need to buy the radios... it'd be easier to just match them up and buy them in pairs.

Frys is pretty cheap. btw, does uniden work with motorola talkabout? i guess it would work as long as the frequency is the same, rite?

Virg, the only cutie I know on the forum is iris... not sure if she has frs radio or not.

hey guys, here's a 10 mile range pair for $30 bucks after instant coupon.

http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Brows...e=1&SKU=572986

This should work with your 'rollas, right? If so, I'll order one.

edit: i bought a pair, so if anyone wants one, you can have it for $15 bucks!

So are GMRS radios a completely different frequency, or can I still communicate with you guys. I don't wanna buy a new radio if my Motorola Talkabout T5820 GMRS radio works.

Vince: I am not familar w/ other makes.

nismo33: hey Eric (Liuman) got a pair... grab one from him for $15. That's a great price esp for 10 mile!!

skar 718: hey ed, if you already have them.... I guess you don't need to be matched up, do ya? But you can do others a favor and grab that "great-deal" radios from Frys and share the cost w/ someone else at the SB run.

Ok I just found that my GMRS radio will communicate with your FRS radios. I am suppose to have a license from the FCC to use this (shhh.) My radio has 23 channels, but only the first 7 or so will communicate with FRS radios. FRS radios max out at 2 miles while GMRS max a 8. (depends on model). So I don't need to buy a new one. My set cost $100 dollars, but me and a friend split it at 50 a peice.

Does anyone have a spare that they bought, and want to get rid of?

If so, bring it to the SB cruise and I'll pay you for it at Starbucks. I take it these things are running about $25 - 35? I would be willing to pay up if it is in this range. Post up here and let me know please... thanks!
