Houston Meet Sat Jan 25th

I am going to be coming to Houston next weekend. We have tried a couple of times to get a meet in Houston together, to no avail.

Would any of y'all be interested?
What area of town is good for everyone?

I am usually in the Jersey Village or Kingwood area when I am in town. So, North would be good for me, but I am willing to drive some.

Let me know what you guys think.

JD

Track 01-19-2003 08:26 PM

That sounds like a blast to me!

We have some excellent places to meet, eat, and hang out.

When we have meets with my other car clubs, we usually get a motel suite or two for a staging area. There are many good choices here that are CHEAP!

We have some awesome resuraunts, too!

We have a Salt Grass Steak House, Texas Land and Cattle Co., and if you are really into great sushi, there is an awesome place on 59 N. that has all-day sushi happy hour! (Mmm....unagi :D)

It is always fun to stop by the Ferrari Dealership and see what kind of neat stuff they have going on.
Right now I'm looking at an F355, but I can't find one I like with manual transmission!

I know of a few Performance Shops that will let us organize in their parking lot (they know it is good for business ;) ) and there are many micro-breweries, laser tag arcades, Dave and Busters, or fun pistol ranges for anyone into that.
(anyone wanna shoot a fully automatic Hk? :D)

We have fun roads, great food, and plenty of adult entertainment (such as Dave and Busters...not hookers! :icon8: )

As far as resturants, we have everything from Magic Island (way awesome) to resturants with rotating rooftop dining rooms. :D

This should be fun. :D

Apexi350z 01-19-2003 08:50 PM

Dave and Busters sounds good... on Richmond right?

I am interested...

Yeppers! :D

It is up the street from Ruth's Chris Steak House. (hint, hint...)

Moroccan_Mole 01-20-2003 01:22 AM

im down for meeting up ... dunno about a hotel suite tho, heh.
that's a little overboard.

vova151 01-20-2003 09:02 AM

I would be up for a Houston meet but can you get enough people together in a week? Anyone else interested?

Derek,

Just a reminder, don't call for a meet in Houston on February 15. :) I already talked Apexi350z and Moroccan_Mole to come to Austin to join the CZOT Hill Country drive. See Rodel's thread here =>
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=16125

Oh, BTW, do you plan to be out of town again that weekend? :) :) :)

that's a little overboard.

That is the way we always do it in my other car clubs.

Well, for good meets anyway.

I get the feeling that this club is an older group that has had most of the "party" sucked out of them. :D

For me to give up a night and day of fun and games, I'd have to have some equal fun and games to compensate. ;)

But I'm a little "hyper." :icon17: :icon4:

vova151 01-20-2003 11:18 AM

Lugs in route

Apexi350Z,

I have received notification that my lugnuts are out for delivery right now. So, if they do deliver them without signature they will be at the house when I get there. If they are there and the big if on that I will go directly to the tire shop and have them put on. The next morning I will take pictures and post them ASAP. Believe me I want them on SOOOOOOO bad. If they look half as good in the garage as they do in the car it will be GREATTTT!

articfury 01-20-2003 01:17 PM

So, do we want to meet at Dave and Busters? Or do we want to meet somewhere else and eat, then drive to DandB?

Al,

I haven't forgotten about the Feb 15th event. I may be out of town for Valentine's, but nothing certain yet.

JD

Moroccan_Mole 01-20-2003 01:20 PM

As I hinted, Ruth's Chris Steak House is up the street. :D

Moroccan_Mole 01-20-2003 01:48 PM

are you paying? :)

Track 01-20-2003 01:51 PM

Ruth's is not that expensive!
You bought a Z didn't ya? :D

The Houston Brewery is up the street also, and it has both cheaper food and some good stuff too.

They also brew their own beers.

ZThang 01-20-2003 02:32 PM

I just got my z the other day...i'd be interested

articfury 01-20-2003 02:36 PM

They both sound good to me. But, we will probably have more people willing to go to Houston Brewery.

Do we want to do some standing around checking out people's cars/mods before eating? Or do we want to go straight inside?

So, what time Saturday do we want to meet? 4pm or earlier/later?

JD

Apexi350z 01-20-2003 02:49 PM

4pm is kind of early to eat...

are we going for lunch or dinner?

Ruth is kind of expensive I think... maybe somewhere more affordable.

what about Fuddrucker? we should decide soon, Saturday is coming soon :)

Track 01-20-2003 03:03 PM

Please no Fuddruckers/McDonalds/Burger King/Bennigans/Hot Biscuit type places!

At least lets go to a place worth a 30 minute drive. Ruth's is not that expensive!
Texas Land and Cattle Company is cheaper and has awesome steaks and the best crispy fries in town! (they are supernatural)

The Houston Brewery is okay.
It's kind of a Mitsubishi type place, but we would fit in. :D

Two Rows in Rice Village (on Morningside) really kicks ass!
It is cheap, has AWESOME food of every type, and they are a micro-brewery that even brews their own non-alc. root beer!

It's hard to top that. :D

The Ferrari dealership is between Two Rows and Dave and Busters, too.

articfury 01-20-2003 04:06 PM

I mentioned 4pm if we wanted to hangout and check out the cars for a while. That would give us 2 hours worth of sunlight. If we don't want to do that then we can make it later.

Two Rows sounds good. What's the parking like? Would we be able to have a spot for 5-10 cars?

If we wanted to stop by the Ferrari dealership, would we need to do that earlier?

Isn't there a pretty nice kart track near the Ferrari dealership?

Or would anyone be interested in hitting the gun range before hand? I know I wouldn't mind trying out Track's toy, even if it is like $5 for 30secs of fun. :D (PS I know it's not a toy, but it sure is fun :D) I could probably convince my good friend to bring out his AR-15, which is quite enjoyable in its own right.

Around the corner there is a big lot. Sometimes their are cops standing around to tow cars that park illegally, but that is usually later at night. We will be standing with our cars anyway, so maybe they would give us a break.
Parking should not be a problem there.

If we wanted to stop by the Ferrari dealership, would we need to do that earlier?
Actually, yes. We would get a much better reception their around noon.

Isn't there a pretty nice kart track near the Ferrari dealership?
Yes. And it rocks! Anyone up for a few laps? :D

JD
I also have a Colt M4A3 (the latest military version of Stoner's AR design, ie the latest version of the M16A2)...mine is automatic and utilizes the ACOG Reflex target acquisition device mounted on Knight's Armory Rail Attachment System. Additionally, it is fitted with an IR illuminator, visual illuminator, forward vertical grip (for when I remove the grenade launcher), and has a telescoping buttstock and a true HBAR configuration. :D
I will remove the M203 grenade launcher and attach the foward grip for our meet.

I can also bring my Hk53, Hk51, Hk G-3K, Hk-MP5, Hk USC .45, Sigarms 551, Steyer AUG .223, about 23 pistols, and a various assortment of carbines, sub-carbines, submachine guns, and squad automatic belt-feds.

Okay, wait, all that won't fit in any of my cars. :icon8:

Well, there is the menu, YOU choose. :D

articfury 01-21-2003 08:22 PM

Since this is short notice for this meet, how 'bout we keep it simple?

Let's say 4:30-5pm at Two Rows.

We'll eat there.

Afterwards, we can head over to DandB's.

How's that?

JD

PS

Track- I am definitely going to have to go to the range with you sometime. :icon04: :icon4:

Moroccan_Mole 01-21-2003 08:36 PM

4:30 is a bit early either lunch 1ish or dinner 7/8ish.

im pretty sure the houston s2ks are meeting up saturday night, too. i know them very well ... theyre a bunch of cool ppl that love to drive :) we should make one big gtg for dinner then go out to drive or whatever.

two rows is a fine, but is the parking lot big enough? ive never been there.

Anthz 01-22-2003 05:16 AM

Damn, I would like to go, but I'm going to the Capital Z of Texas Dyno day on Sat. You guys have fun. Can't wait to see your wheels "Finally Installed!" Vova151. :)

articfury 01-22-2003 10:37 AM

Moroccan,

I was thinking of meeting then so that we can hang out and chat for a while before we eat. I figured we wouldn't actually be eating until 6:30 or 7.

That would put us at DandB's around 8:30 or 9.

I am not sure about parking, I have never been there. Track seems to think there will be enough room. Anyone live nearby that could do a reconnaissance run?

JD

Moroccan_Mole 01-22-2003 02:25 PM

ok how's this for definite plans?

5pm at two rows. (take pics with the sun still up, hang out, chat, etc)

go inside for dinner at 7pm.

afterwards we can drive around, goto d&b, whatever we happen to decide.

im also going to post on the g35/s2k boards to see if any of those guys are interested to come out ... the more people the better :)

vova, if you decide to drive down from austin ... youre more than welcome to stop by my place earlier in the day ... so you dont have to drive into houston so late. ill just be washing my car before the meet on saturday after i get off of work ~ 130ish.

articfury 01-22-2003 03:04 PM

Sounds good.

I will have to leave for a while...my niece's birthday. But I will most likely meet up with you all later.

JD

vova151 01-22-2003 03:20 PM

Mo,
Thanks for the invite. I'm kicking it around right now. I've got a buddy coming to Austin tomorrow in his new Z and I want to check when he's heading back. I'll let you know something before EOB Friday.

Articfury,
Are you going as part of a convoy of any kind?

Anyone else from Austin wanna run a train to Houston. I assume it's going to be tough with Dynoday.

articfury 01-22-2003 03:53 PM

vova,

I am going down on my own. I am not sure yet if I am going to drive down Friday or Saturday.

If you think you want to drive down let me know. I might be willing to drive down at the same time.

JD

Track 01-22-2003 04:16 PM

The Rice Village area is very shady (trees, not hookers :p ).
I would suggest getting there at 4:30 if we want enough sunlight for some good pics.

There is plenty of parking around 2-Rows, but I don't know how crowded it will be on a Saturday at that time. Later that night it will be too crowded, but that won't effect us.

On the other hand, Rice University is just a few blocks away, and they have acres and acres of parking lots!

We might even find a nice grassy place to park and take pics of our z-cars on green grass.
I love to piss off the Earth First types of socialists that infest the area. :D

If anyone is coming-in on Friday, gimme a call and I'll take you to some cool night-spots around Houston. I'll call my handler tomorrow and see if we can't "borrow" a chopper so you can see a bird's eye view of downtown.

For you party types, the Gingerman is across the street from Two Rows (they have about 100 different beers on tap and another hundred in bottles).

Next door to the Gingerman a friend of mine owns a bar called "The Bronx."
On pretty nights, they have college girls in bikinis walking around handing out jello-shots.
Inside, there are leather sofas, love seats, coffetables, etc...
It's like lounging at home. :D
Outside are picknic tables and big wooden benches.

Right up the street (59 N) is a Cart track and a Ferrari dealership.

Between the track and Two Rows is a great Italian icecream joint called Dolce, Fredo, and Gellato (gee, I hope I spelled that right. :p)
They make all their frozen deserts (ice cream type stuff) themselves.
You can smell them all cooking when you walk in. :D

It's like a Baskin Robbins for the truly inspired and highly motivated. :icon4:

If anyone is coming in on Friday, shoot me a PM.

I'll be gone in a little while (every Wed. we ride mountain bikes from 11 pm. til 8 am. at mad speeds over some crazy landscapes!).

I'll check my email when I get back around daylight.
(sooner, if someone has to go to the hospital...we usually don't have to stop for such things, as I carry duct tape to put people back together after wrecks...maybe we shouldn't carry flasks of overproof Jamaican rum and single malt scotch?)

Anyway, if you PM me after about 10pm, I will not get it until around sunrise, but I'll immediately return it or call you if ya leave a cell number.

Otherwise, I'll have to check my PM's and return calls when I get home (between 7 am and 9 am if no one dies or anything).

Then I'll nap until around noon and be good-to-go!

I apologize for my weird schedule, but I'll be checking emails for early arrivals each chance I get. If anyone needs me to find a motel for them, I can do that too, just let me know.

If you want my cell #, just PM me and I'll shoot it right out to ya.

It may be too cold, but does anyone here skyboard?

Moroccan_Mole 01-22-2003 09:56 PM

mmm not sure if im going to be able to make it now... i had an incident with my car tonight ... the body is fine... but its not driveable. :(

Dude!

No way!

Crap! Crap! Crap!

Can't you come to hang out and just bring another car?
If you want, I could come get ya in my z-car, too.

I'm sorry to hear about your car, but I'm glad you were unhurt.

If ya want to still get together, if even for a little while, PM me and I'll give ya my cell phone # so you can keep in touch.

You should at least join us at Two Rows and the cart track!

Let me know what you decide, and keep me posted about word on your car. :(

Good luck with everything,

Scott

VaGentleman 01-23-2003 11:12 AM

Now, they say everything is bigger in Texas. However, I betcha our meet will have more Z's than y'alls :D :D

VG

Moroccan_Mole 01-23-2003 11:16 AM

articfury 01-23-2003 11:34 AM

Moroccan,

Sorry to hear about your car.

I hope you can make it out to the meet.

VG,

You have the luxury have having people from 3 states coming. :D
Not to mention a month of lead time.

Don't worry Texas will have a very large Z meet in the near future, if I have my way. :D

Y'all have fun now, ya hear. ;)

JD

Apexi350z 01-23-2003 12:48 PM

I bet the next month meet at Austin will be HUGE!

Track 01-24-2003 02:39 AM

I just got back from my late-nite mountain bike ride.

Wow, it is cold out there!

Anyone who is coming in for the Houston meet PM me and let me know your schedule.

It only makes sense to me that we would meet around 4:30 on Saturday so we can have plenty of daylight. If anyone gets into town early, gimme a call on my cell phone.

If you don't have it yet, PM me.

Drive carefully and let's try to get together as early as possible to make best use of the light on Saturday.

ZThang 01-24-2003 07:28 AM

Im too lazy to read all these long posts...can somebody just simply tell me excatly where on saturday and what time?? Thanks guys.

Also....does someone hear live in the Memorial area? b/c i always see this silver Z drive down Bunkerhill towards Taylorcrest.

articfury 01-24-2003 09:08 AM

Saturday 4:30 Two Rows

We can decide if we want to take a short drive to somewhere better to take photos

What to do the rest of the night we can decide once we are there.

JD

YOU?

Welcome? With your back seats and lack of splashguards????

Well of course you are! :D

How could we have a proper meet without our brothers-in-coupes? :D

The more the merrier! There is power in numbers! (have I used enough cliche's yet, or should I continue?) :icon4:

Of course you guys/gals are welcome!

We won't fault you for buying the grown-up's version!
Just don't complain about our table manners. :p

This should be a blast! PM me an I'll send ya my cell #.

If anyone has any GMRS type radios (like those Motorola's) bring them for point-to-point communications during drives. I have a few of those too.
They are always helpful during meets. :)

Track 01-24-2003 11:10 AM

For those without NAV who don't know where Two Rows is, PM me and I'll explain in detail.

If you can't, here is a brief overview that should put you there:

Take Hwy 59 to Kirby. Exit Kirby and drive S.E.

At the second red light (Bissonet?) turn left (you don't have to be precise here...you can turn anywhere past the second light with-in reason).

Proceed down that street (Bissonet?). You will cross one other. Keep going.
When you come to Morning Side, turn right.
You will be in what appears to be a residential neighborhood with huge (but gentle) speed bumps in the street.

Resist the temptation to use them to catch air.

Continue down Morningside. At 5555 Morningside, you will see some parking and a Bistro, The Bronx (night club), and the Gingerman to your left at 5555.

On your right you will see a "strip mall" looking area with parking.
Above that, upstairs, is Two Rows.

If this area is too crowded on Saturday for pics, Rice University is just up the road, and will have plenty of photo ops, some even on grass! :D

If you are thirsty, Two Rows has this stuff called "beer."

Gatorhouse 01-24-2003 11:15 AM

Oh cool... Thanks!...I hope I can make it. Thats in the same center as Baker Street Pub, right? I bet the parking lot is gonna suck at that time.

Track 01-24-2003 11:25 AM

I'm not familiar with Baker Street Pub. Hmmmm....I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

Here is another way to get there:

Go all the way down Kirby (lots of lights and stay out of the right hand lane ;)

When you come to UNIVERSITY Blvd, turn left and go to Morningside (you will probably go through a stop sign--but be sure to stop--West U. cops really suck. :D

Once you arrive at Morningside, turn left again, and you will be a block from Two Rows (on your left this time).

I'll look at the map in a minute to double check.
If there are any corrections (to get the directions more precise), I'll post them tonight, so they will be available when everyone wakes up to start their trek.

If you are leaving tonight, PM me with your cell or mobile number, and I'll give you mine. When you arrive, you can call me and I'll meet ya somewhere and we can go to the area for a little recon.

Then I'll come home and post any corrections or updates.

Scott

EDIT: If you turn left at Rice Blvd, you will need to turn right at Morningside and go for another block and it will be on your right.

If you go to University, go left there, and left again on Morningside and it will be to your left.

Track 01-24-2003 11:35 AM

Let's see if this works. Try clicking on this link, and it should give ya a map to the Bronx (across the street from Two Rows).

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...55+Morningside

Good luck and safe driving!

Gatorhouse 01-24-2003 11:42 AM

Awesome, thanks!.. yeah I go to Bronx Bar all of the time. Next door is Brian O'Neals. And Baker street Pub is in the brick strip mall across the street.

Track 01-24-2003 11:56 AM

You know the Bronx Bar??? LOL!

A friend of mine and his brother own that bar!
They have another downtown (Irish Pub).

We close/lock the doors at 2 am all the time (after running everyone out) and party like mad-men! Woo hoo!

Before 9-11 and me being assigned to Homeland Security, I designed the security system for that place (I was working executive protection at the time), and gave him some extra high tech goodies (some, he is still trying to figure out how to work!).

I desinged it myself (a field tech installed, I don't do that stuff!).

That is a bad place to break in to. :D

Fun place to hang out!

Have you ever scoped out their selection of Scotches???

Gatorhouse 01-24-2003 12:52 PM

Thanks For the Head's UP! I promise I won't try to break in that place:D hehehe Anyway, yeah they had that place Cilante Irish pub? Downtown... next to 511, right? Come to think of it, I was downtown last weekend and I dont recall seeing it there. Did it close down? I think I've met the dude like 5 times...A lot of my friends are regulars there and that's how I was introduced to him...Anyway, My buddy used to work the door there, now he's at Brian O'neals. and I think another friend of mine works the door at Bronx now... Maybe we can close off the Covered parking area next door to bronx... can probably fit like 10 cars in there!

Track 01-24-2003 01:26 PM

Hey Gator,

I guess I know both of your friends that used to work the front door.

One of them was interested in getting a job with my outfit (before the events of 9-11).

I was thinking about the covered parking next door, too.
I didn't wanna mention it until I could be sure, as I don't think the Bronx has sole proprietorship over that lot.

Maybe we can work something out.
I just got off the phone with JD, and he is coming in tonight.

We are meeting at Rice Village if anyone would like to join us. :D

If you want exact details and times and locations, PM me and I'll tell you w/o posting our intended movements to the whole world here in this open thread. :D

We are already expecting 3-4 to get together tonight.
A dozen would be even better. :icon04:

PM me and we'll get this thing rolling!

I'm hoping we can do the Cart track tonight to free-up some time tomorrow. ;)
We can also stop and browse Ferrari's. :D

Hope I see you all tonight;
Come on out!

Apexi350z 01-24-2003 07:08 PM

anyone can come to the meet. If you don't have 350z, or just simply wants to check one out, you are all welcome to come and join us.. afterall, g35 is in the same family :)
