Tach needle stuck

Hi guys

I was cruising to work and noticed my tach needle was stuck at 3500rpm
after i downshifted! It stayed like this for about 3 mins then went back to normal. Has this happened to any of you?

redline06 11-05-2008 06:25 AM

hahaha yea its weird isnt it? this used 2 happen once in a while when i had my 06 , i never cared enough to bring it in to nissan . just take it 2 the dealership theyll prob fix it

I used to have that problem...on my '87 hard-body pick-up. Redline's right though. Just swing by the dealership and they'll fix it for ya.

Same thing happening here, except it gets stuck at 2200 RPM and doesn't move until I turn at a corner or hit some bumps. Happened about three times now.

Going for my first oil change tomorrow at 8 and I'm going to notify the servicemen about it. I'll keep guys posted on what they say or do.

*Update*

Asked the servicemen about the problem, and they said I'm gonna have to schedule a day for them to check it out and try to recreate it. I doubt they can since it only happens once in a while. Causes could be faulty wiring or the tach itself. :dunno:

Happened to me just one time. Started functioning normally again after about 20 mins and has been fine ever since :dunno:

Any of you Roadster's? Common for us when the sun is beating on the Tach when our tops are down.

I've had this happen twice. Goodluck getting the dealership to fix it because the first thing they are going to do is try to duplicate the issue, and of course it's not going to happen.

Mine will freeze for a few minutes and i've noticed that even if i turn the car off and back on, the tach will stay frozen, it won't shut down like everything else.

Damn it, mine just did it today... started it up, sat at 1500rpm, tried reving nothing. Than after 30 seconds of light reving, it started moving slightly and then worked fine... This is BS... I hope it doesn't happen again, but I doubt it.

Mine has stuck once I pulled over and shut off the engine and it dropped, hasn't done it since

I was thinking it was temperature related, when it was hot around here, tach got stuck several times, but since it's nice and cold now, hasn't happened since. :dunno:

I don't know if the temp has anything to do with it, because mine was fine in the summer when it was warm, now temps have droped to below 30 F and it happened to me lol...

GHOST1207 11-15-2008 10:33 PM

LOL^^ like I said :dunno: as long as it doesn't happen on a daily or weekly basis I'm fine with it.

shystieone 11-19-2008 01:31 PM

it just happened to me today after i've driven for 15 minutes. It would get stuck at idle for about 3 minutes, until i took a hard turn. Then it would slowly jerk itself back up to where it SHOULD be..

Exactly. This happens to me quite often. Especially when I park with the top down and windows up. It could happen on a coupe as well. The black backing to the dash gets hot and expands slightly. The tach needle then has friction against the back and sticks in place for a bit. Bumps or cooling would free the needle again.

Mine has done it a couple times. Just continued driving and after a min, it goes back to normal
