hr test pipe non fouler fix

Ok there are some rough picuters but you will get the idea.

to start off, wish i had take pictures. do a search if you don't know you will find out about using spark plug non foulers to fix the cel light from test pipes.
i picked mine up at napa i think for 2.59 for a set and you will need 2. you will need to drill them out one all the way thru the hole and almost to the bottom in the second one. but don't go thru the second hole. now i didn't realize i bought 2 different kinds. the holes are 2 different sizes in the bottom. try to get the ones that have small holes.

ok get a brillo pad, your gonna want to rip it apart and shake it to try to get the soap out. you won't get it all but its ok.

the dark one is the old one that was stuff in the non fouler, it was an inch big, packed in there. pack it very well. each time you stuff it and pack it, blow thru the non foulers. it will be kinda hard to blow thru. just to give you an idea you will use almost all of the brillo padding. sorry my write up isn't better, but for those that have used non foulers in the past you will know what im talking about. those that don't please feel free to ask.

How long have you been using this? thx for the simple write up. If this fixes the CEL for good I wont have to worry about emissions here anymore.

kramykram 12-03-2008 07:22 AM

ive been running for about 2k miles. i was getting a cel again, but when i pulled them apart i saw that i had the 2 different holes. so i went and bought another set that has the small holes. but yes the fix is great and works.

Cali-Darkness 12-04-2008 08:25 AM

hold on for a min
i had the non foulers installed in my car when it wasnt filled and my car still bogged and CEL was still on...

so ur saying if u stuff the non fouler with that pad the CEL and the bog goes away?

Better pictures and directions in the DIY section.

Instead of knocking the soap out of a Brillo pad, why don't you use regular steel wool?

kramykram 12-04-2008 05:44 PM

Steel wool will not work its not fine enough. If you look at my picture you can see a ball of it sitting there that would not work. .

I can't promise your bog will go away. I just know I don't have bog or a cel. But I also don't have test pipes with stock exhaust. But when I did have my stock exhaust on waiting for my jic. I did experience big even with the fix and no cell.

Your local hardware store will have the correct thickness you are looking for in the section that has the sanding material (paint department).

kramykram 12-05-2008 02:20 PM

Ill check the hardware store.
But I received my berk high flows today and the o2 bung that is built as a non fouler has a small hole like the ones we make for our cars. When my gaskets get here im going to stuff it with steel wool or brillo and see how that does before I use non foulers in it.

Is this still working for you?

I remember other members trying this with test pipes a while ago and nobody was successful. I couldn't find the thread with a quick search, but will post a link if I find it.

Hydrazine was trying to develop a fix but I don't think anything ever came of it...

kramykram 12-17-2008 04:09 AM

yes it works fine. i had trouble on one side but found out it was due to one set of non foulers having a big hole in it. the side that had a small hole looked decent and still nice and compacted when i pulled it out. the other side i could see looked rough and like some of it had blown out. im running test pipes now with just the berk non foulers. i put a little stainless wool from lowes in there as someone suggested and its working like a charm so far.

0jiggy0 12-17-2008 05:28 AM

I just bought some berk tps i notice in the pics theres a tube coming off, is this the non fouler ur talking about? Should i forget about buying the non foulers from pep boys and stuffing this tube with brillo?

im fixing to pull mine apart and see. look inside if there is a small hole then just stuff it till you can barely blow thru it. if there is a big hole then you will need the non fouler im fixing to go pull mine apart and see how they look. i stuffed my high flows and 200+ miles and no light yet

kramykram 12-17-2008 06:22 AM

Ok its confirmed the berk test pipes and high flow cats do not need non foulers. you can just stuff non fouler made on them with stainless wool. on the test pipes stuff just enough that you can barely blow thru it. on the high flow cats, use a little less to take up for the fact it has a cat. also on the high flow cats do not stuff it hard just set it in there and let the o2 sensor hold it in place as there is some clearance that will be there if you stuff it and cause it to blow back.

0jiggy0 12-17-2008 06:32 AM

So dont stuff it like hell? Stuff it till you can still hear barely any air making it through?

kramykram 12-17-2008 06:35 AM

you want a nice pack in there. but yes barely able to blow thru. haha i wish i had read about the brillo before i had installed. i would of checked a long time ago. but after checking the high flows, i figured the test pipes were they same and they are.

terrycs 12-17-2008 11:32 AM

No SES light from this set up either:

0jiggy0 12-17-2008 12:07 PM

did you stuff those or they naturally dont produce a cel?

kramykram 12-17-2008 03:03 PM

Aam throws a cell also. I wrote berk and asked them about putting a smaller hole in there pipes to try and fix it all together without stuffing.
