Track wheel specs (search doesn't work)

I remember reading somewhere that the track model uses 18s in the front and 19s in the back. So if that's true, are the rim widths staggered also?

If anyone has all the dimensions for stock track rims that would be great

Kolia Apr 8, 2006 04:30 AM

The '06 Track wheels sizes are:

18x9 +30mm with 245/45R18 tires Front
19x10 +30mm with 265/35R19 tires Rear

Cool, thanks. So my next question is - What are the some inexpensive, light, quality rims?

EDIT: changed "cheap" to "inexpensive".

Wired 24/7 Apr 8, 2006 08:40 AM

My guess would be enkei

phile Apr 8, 2006 09:16 AM

I want to go with a staggered setup like the track Z.

17X9Front
18X10Rear

or

18X9Front
19X10Rear

All the lightweight rims I'm looking at might have the front width I want, but are .5 inches too narrow in the rear. Or visa versa. =/

Nano Apr 8, 2006 10:06 AM

Enkei RP03

.5" is nothing... your choice is mostly limited by tires anyway. The 265 tires on the 10" rim is far from the best choice, a 9.5" rim would actually make more sense. The 2006 track staggered is odd to say the least, the 265/35-19 is nonexistent and keeping the correct aspect ratio front-rear is a challenge considering the tire choice...

I figured the nissan engineers must have decided to stagger both the width and the diameter for a reason. Seems like it might be a good compromise for off the line acceleration and eliminating some understeer at the same time.

Can you elaborate on the aspect ratio?

Armitage Apr 8, 2006 11:29 AM

03-05 were 18x8" up front, 18.5" in the rear (approx. 18.x lbs front and rear, with the fronts a tad bit lighter than the rears). I forget the offsets... I want to say +30 up front and +33 in the rear... or maybe the other way around.

did you mean 18X8 and 18X8.5? I was always under the impression the 03-05s
were also staggered in diameter. Like 18X8.5 and 19X9.5

no, only the 06 track and grand touring are staggered 18-19

the 03-05 track are 18x8+30 and 18x8.5+33 (225/45-18 and 245/45-18)

So why do you think they staggered the diameter on the 06's. Do you think it's like I surmised - Good compromise for off the line grip and eliminating some understeer also?

Armitage Apr 8, 2006 11:42 AM

Doesn't staggering the width usually create understeer?

No clue why they did that on the 06... IMHO it's a "look cool" thing that has no practical sense whatsoever. I don't think it will have better off-the-line grip, as the smaller sidewall can't flex for ****, the oversized width makes it even worse, I don't think lateral grip will improve either, and neither will handling and performance... bottom line they just look cool. (I personally think they look fugly, the stagger looks rediculous with the bigger diameter in the rear, and the spokes look like penises, lol)

Right, but notice I said diameter :P

iiiiinteresting. I don't know what the hell to do then. Basically I want to know the best rim/tire setup for ultimate cornering grip, without sacrificing off the line grip either. No slicks though. The last thread I made discussing this, everyone had different opinions. I'm surprised there isn't one single "best" solution.

Armitage Apr 8, 2006 11:49 AM

Oops. Regardless, I would think either would create it. More rubber in the back vs. less in the front would seem to equal understeer to me.

the best performance(cornering, handling, acceleartion, etc...) will come with 17" wheels and good rubber... they might not look the "hottest" but they deliver the performance. All depends what you are in for... 19" look good, 18" might be the compromise you are looking for.

I have a set of 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 for the street and a set of 17x9 and 17x10 for the track.

I know very little about this stuff. I studied it briefly last year, then forgot everything I learned. :p You are probably correct though.

Well I could go 17" and lower the car. I have 18" touring rims right now.

So say I went with 17s. What wheel widths would you go with, and would you keep them uniform from front to back or have a stagger? Some people suggested equal for neutral handling. Others preferred a stagger if they were to be on a large track. Understeer isn't always bad.

And depending on that answer, the tires would have to be fit obviously. I know that equal rim widths and uniform tire sizes all teh way around are the best bang/buck but i'm looking for the best handling/grip.

Armitage Apr 8, 2006 12:44 PM

I don't think understeer with RWD is too bad because you can always correct it with a bit of throttle, at least thats my understanding. I don't mind the bit of understeer when auto-xing, but I haven't driven it neutrally yet either.
