Question about upgrading to 19's
 

I'd like to know if you can actually feel a performance loss by upgrading to 19's? I have a 2005 so I have the 17" factory and going up two sizes makes me wonder about a performance hit. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Performance is overrated. Go 20 inches at least.

yes its noticable. i went from 17 inch stockers to volk gt-c 19's and it was definitely noticeable. If you got a lighter 1 piece forged 19 it may not be as noticable.

personally, i think with the wider 19 in wheels, you get better performance as far as handleing and didnt notice a decrease in acceleration. car just feels more planted on the ground.

i went with the forged 2 peice Volk GTS wheels.

Yeah, it's quite noticeable unless you get a very light forged wheel (under 21lbs). But, if you were coming from the heavier OEM 18s (not track), it would be only slightly noticeable.

my TA's weigh about 18 lbs ea. :D

stock 17's to cheap and heavy 19's here - noticable difference

I just stay with my stock 17s. I'm afraid to crack 19s and you feel every dam imperfection on the street. The ride comfort feels like a luxury car almost with the stock 17s, and they are cheap to replace.

I didnt feel much change in ride. wider tire nearly makes up for lower sidewall.. sort of the same volume of air... excluding very sharp bumps of course.. but no, ride isnt a downside.

I just went from 19's to 18's and the difference is big as far as the ride goes...18's are much better and they're a helluva lot cheaper to replace once you burn the rears off...I was paying $305 per tire for 19''...My new 18'' rears were $170 each

Great advice everyone. I really appreciate all your input. One last question, anyone know how heave the OEM 17" are. I would consider 18's because I still think they look good as long as a bbk would fit in the future. Also, you're all right about the tires not costing as much to replace, damn things are expensive. I was thinking of the Volk Winning, i really like that style. Thanks again.

One thing that nobody thinks about when going to wider tires is the increased rolling resistance. When I upgraded from the OEM setup 225/245 to 255/285 I saw my gas mileage drop about 3mpg. More traction also means more drag :(

Yes. The trend here is about looks.

Members who run 30 pound 19x10 wheels with sheet cheap tires could care less about performance. The same members will post a 14.3 second time slip in the drag racing forum and ask for advise.

Thanks for your honesty. I think if you have the money you can have the best of both worlds. I checked on the 19" Winnings and according to the vendor he says they are about 21lbs so thats not really that bad.

Its cool. There is no “best” wheel-tire set up for every driver. Depends on your needs and budget. Whatever suits your fancy.

Get some iforged 19's! My volks feel just as light as my 17's did:)

Would this be a good place to honesly ask about 19x8.5 vs 19x9.5 ? I see that nismo LMGT4s come in 19x8.5 for the front and 19x9.5 for the rears. What are the disadvantages to just getting 4 identical tires so you can do a full rotation?
