i'm being a noob again.. need some tire recommendations
 

hey guys.. its almost time to get some new tires, the ones that came with my wheels are almost on their last legs [POS are ripping apart.. literally].

so right now i've got 245/35/19 in the front, 275/30/19 in the back.
i'd really love to get 285's in the back, i hate how stretched the tires look right now. i think i also need more of a sidewall so probably 285/35 in the back, and keep the fronts the same. does that sound about right? one reason i want a wider sidewall is because i want the wheel well to look.. well... more filled up, because i can't lower my car anymore [on tanabe gf210 springs right now] or else i wouldnt be able to drive in LA. the z is my daily and the streets here are NOT friendly.

so i need a tire that can handle the way i drive.. pretty aggressively in general, but i also hit up the canyons quite often [or rather, i do when my tires arent falling apart] and i need something that'll last at least 15k miles and put up with hard, fast curves.

i'm ok with spending more money if it truly is WORTH IT... i really want a tire i don't have to worry about and that can handle my driving.

i know toyo t1r's and michelin ps2's are widely recommended... any particular reason why, and does anyone have objections to them, or other recommendations?

Nitto Invo's . They are quiet , stick well in the SoCal Canyons and so far i've got 20k on mine.

My recommendation would be going with 255/35/19 and 285/35/19 to have 'flatter' sidewall like you wanted. Heck even 255 up fron on those 9.5" TE's look a bit stretched actually. If you want you can even go with 275, but you'll have to go down to 30 profile.

As far as tires goes, what's your budget? If cost is not an issue, look no further than Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.
I've run the tires mentioned above - PS2, T1R, and Nitto 555, and it's no competition really in term of performance.
Simply put, PS2 will AMAZE you in both dry AND wet traction. I can honestly tell you that PS2 is the best street tire you can get; there's a reason why Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini use PS2 as standard tire on their cars!

I'm sorry calin, but I must say that Nitto 555 is piece of ****. Dry traction is mediocore at best, and they're just HORRIBLE in the rain.
The gap in performance between PS2 and Nitto 555 is just ridiculous; PS2, in pouring rain on cold surface grips BETTER than Nitto 555 in its optimum performance on dry, hot stickly surface. Enough said.

As far as T1R, it's mostly hype factor, just like Tein and Takata - definitely not the best but people still get them cuz of the trend.
T1R's performance is above average, however I do not like the soft sidewall that tends to flex when you corner hard. PS2's sidewall is much stiffer and will give you a lot more confidence in corners, not to mention it's lighter than T1R.
Simply put, T1R is popular because it's cheap for the performance it delivers, but it's nothing special.

Personally, I'm running Falken Ziex ZE912's. Decided on all-season's for dependability in all conditions. And they handle exceptionally well wet and dry. 40K treadlife warranty doesn't hurt either... :D

thanks kevin, i know we've had this discussion in person at westco that one day, that's what got me thinking about ps2's. how much do they run? i would look it up right now but i got some other crap i gotta do.. about to sign off here.

Ya I did feel my back end come lose once in the rain. That was kind of a shocker since the tires were pretty new when that happend :icon14:

I would recommend researching the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. They're a great price and probably one of the better tire's I've used.

They run around $1700 for 19's in sizes you're looking for. But Rick@Status will hook it up for $1400.

IMHO tires are the most important aspect in a car along with suspension, so it's money well spent.
I'm currently running T1R cuz I wanted to save money, and I'm totally regretting it. I'm going back to PS2 as soon as these wear out.

+1 to what kevin said, i also have a huge irrational fear of tires blowing up... well ok it's not irrational, it stems from having one of my mom's old car's tires blow on the freeway when i was like.. 7 or 8.. we spun 3x in the middle of the 2 north :(

if they come in your desired sizes, you can't go wrong with the vredestain ultrac sessanta. I don't have 15K on mine yet to know if they would meet that criteria, but they are cheap and should stand up well to hard cornering.

I'm ordering my second set of Toyo T 1Rs; got 26,000 quiet, good ride, good wet/dry stick on first set.

But, per many posts here, the Toyo sidewalls are considered to soft for guys who corner really hard. Michelin PS2s seem to be da bomb by all who have them. I don't corner at the limits so not worth the extra cost for PS2s to me.
