Incident that happened today....SLP?

Hello everyone, I was driving my automatic 350z today and then i was making a left turn and accelorated quickly, i totaly felt the car "drift" but wasnt making and noise with the tires.. it was kind of wet not very and then on my dashboard I saw "SLP" blinking... i put the car in neutral and accelerated thinking i just need to give gas any ideas what happened im kind of nervous to drive.. it has popped up about 4 times this week...

Turning, accelerating and wet - that the perfect formula for a disaster.

The Slip light comes on when the wheels slip. Try reading the owners manual for an explanation of that particular indicator.

If it happens in dry weather when you're not accelerating, then you might have the problem described here... https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....1&postcount=45

Otherwise, lay off the gas so much.

Dave i preplaced my tires with 4 all season so idk if thats it but it was wet and i put a lot of gas is it anything to worry about with a lighter foot? I'm worried about winter but i plan on getting winter tires

What size tires?

Spike100 09-17-2010 03:30 PM

Some reasons you see the SLIP light:
  • Incorrect tire sizes (the basis for davidv’s question)
  • Excessively worn tires
  • Slippery roadways (meaning frozen roadways since good tires will hold on wet roadways)
  • New tire’s can be slippery until they are “scrubbed-in” (but this is more a problem with summer performance tires than all-season tires).
  • Excessive acceleration through turns (not something that should happen during normal street driving)
A very common reason for excessive TCS activation (you see the SLIP light) is incorrect tire sizes (the question davidv asks in Msg. #4 on your thread). David asks a very good question, especially in light of your recent tire replacement. So… I will repeat David’s question:

What size tires?

All 4 are the same size?

omsin523 10-21-2010 06:52 PM

he's probably running the 245/40's all around if so, then that would cause that

Yes... 245/40-18" all around will cause the problem he describes. I've seen this firsthand.

What's interesting is 245/45-18" all around seems to work. I've run this setup without any problem on a VDC-equipped car.

This is a square set up? I do NOT see a problem with TCS.

Spike100 10-23-2010 03:09 PM

^^ 245/40-18” is short for the rear tire. If you drive aggressively with a short rear tire you may see the SLIP light with a TCS-equipped Z. This is especially true on wet roadways (which cityslick43 mentions: ”it was kind of wet not very and then on my dashboard I saw "SLP" blinking...”)

Yes, I am running them on all four, Just bought some Contiwinter sport m3 winter tires all four winter tires for $240 they were 70% tread and made in 2005 so not that old of a tire.. otherwise I would have went wider but I couldnt pass up this deal being a college student and all. Thank you very much for input everyone I really appreciate it.
