Default Oil consumption = new short block.

Just thought I would let you guys know I'm getting a new short block due to massive oil consumption. It was burning 4-5 quarts between oil changes. 17k miles bone stock.

On a 370z? That's insane. I thought the problem was gone on the VQ37. Nissan is really ****ing dropping the ball.

Because one person posted this?
Over on the 370z site only a couple of people have had their engines replaced from an oil issue and one was in an accident so there is no 100% claim to what did or did not cause it. The other had low mileage on it and probably was a bad engine from the get go.

If I've learned anything from my time on car forums it's that if one slipped through the cracks with a defect, chances are thousands others have too.

Sucks that you have to deal with that, but I'm glad they're getting it fixed for you.

A forum where on average 5 % of the people who drive a 370z vs the other 95% in the world. I take instances like this with a grain of salt.

No, because this potential problem has been around since the G37 was released.. I mentioned this over on the 370z site, well over a year ago.
I learned this through contacts at a local Infiinity dealer... early '09 they had at least 4 G37's waiting on new motors because of consumption..

Your logic is flawed. Statistically speaking if there's a problem with several cars in a small sample population then the problem should most likely exist proportionately in the larger population. Then there is of course the fact that a lot of people come to these forums only because they have problems. However, as someone else mentioned: I've learned from experience that when one or two of these problems pop up it's generally not an isolated issue. Just my experience (as a Mechanical Engineer with experience in manufacturing and quality control), after all that's all I can offer.

Wait, because the original G37 had issues instantly equates to the 370z having issues? Yes they use the same engine, but that does not mean Nissan did not attempt to alter it to improve or resolve this issue. And one dealership with 4 cars needing new engines is your user base? I guess at my next time I see 4 370z owners again I will ask and see if any are having the issue and we can compare notes.

9k so far and my 370 doesnt consume hardly any oil. I am pretty good about checking it every other fill up of gas.

guess its just all luck.. my 06 6mt has 50k on it and doesnt burn oil at all.. whew! although i still find it funny that people this day and age still dont get that not ALL Z owners are on the forums, and secondly, only people with problems complain or post about them, the other 99% without problems dont see the need to post up "hey my car isnt burning oil or feathering tires.."

That's similar to what's happening here with my Z. They originally wanted a short block but said it was on back order. Then they called and said they canceled the order because Nissan wants my engine back for failure analysis, so they are ordering a long block instead. Unfortunately I am still waiting for the engine to arrive.

You mean 2003... Sorry to hear about this. I would have tried to get the whole long block. My cams were scored and in bad shape from oil depervation. Glad to see your getting taken care of though

Actually it would be 2005, the initial launch of of the Rev-Ups in the Track Model and 35th anniversary. The DE motors never had the widespread consumption issues the Rev-Ups did.
