I know that this is a bit late, but is it a true box/enclosure for the speaker or just a cover? I've read the thread and didn't read anything about it... unless I missed it. The fitting looks great, too. I suppose you used your cover, too?

yeah it is a true box. it is a 2 part system. the box is made of mdf and i used the plastic panel to mold the cover panel of the box. if that makes sense.
by the way i recently got a new dd so i have some time to tear my system apart and hopefully make a mold of mine.

looks good. you should looked into sundown sa-8's or dd 8" subs. the sa-8 can take 400rms without breaking a sweat. nice setup though. nice to see something clean and creative.

thanks. i chose the solo baric for two reason, the price was right and the overall surface area was greater than the round 8" for more air movement. inknow that last reason can be debated forever, but i got this sub for less than $100. i actually ordered the previous year model (clearence price), but i received this one that was the new model since they had runout of the old model.
if i was into spl for this install i would have looked in other directions (and wouldnt have gone with 8"). i actually had four mtx 8500s that were begging to be installed in the hatch, but i didnt want to go that route, trying to keep weight down as much as possible. plus i sold them for a decent price. i just wanted a little bass and didnt want to break the bank.

You should do a DIY or possibly post measurements and set up of box/port. I've built a few basic boxes and would love to try this. Also did you have a factory sub there or just cut it out. I don't have a factory sub and was thinking bout just cutting the plastic piece for the box I was gunna design. I know underneath the plastic it still has the framing etc... As the one with factory sub

Like this?
- Cut hole (optional)
- Mold of hole made with epoxy over tinfoil
- Framing with wood circle and graphite
- Lay down layers of glass and epoxy
- Sand to to fit form
- Bondo
- Sand to to fit form and finish
- Paint or finish
Is that about it? I'm thinking of doing this without the cut to the panel.
I'm considering using PVC tubing as a starting point.
