DIY - Shaving the Badge off the Front Bumper
Im wrapping the Z pretty soon so I decided to shave the Nissan badge off the front bumper for a cleaner look. Wasn't too hard but it will take some time so be prepared.(Around 3 hours)
Materials:
Bondo Body Filler (Stage 3)
Plastic Squeegee (To spread the Bondo)
Sanding paper 100, 220, 400, & 800 grit.
Acetone (Or any wax/grease removing cleaner)
Heat Gun
Dental Floss or Fishing Line
Primer Spray Can(I used Rustoleum)
I first took the bumper off, then you want to start heating up the nissan badge with the heat gun. Make sure your hand is constantly moving with the heatgun. I used a plastic trim removal tool to start lifting the edge up. After one edge is lifted, heat again and use the dental floss to completely remove the badge. Get the 100 grit sandpaper and start sanding the bumper. Start sanding the imprint of the badge and about 1/2 inch more onto the bumper. You can also use a wire brush for this part^. Grab a cloth and wet it with the acetone and start cleaning the sanded area and about 5-7 inches more on every side of the badge as well. Then grab some Bondo, mix with the hardener and begin. Start by getting a thin layer on, then let dry and keep building it up until its about 1/8 inch higher than the rest of the bumper. (Make sure you get Bondo in all the edges making sure not to leave pockets of air. Let dry and start sanding with the 100 grit then move to the 220 grit. When the bondo is basically flush with the rest of the bumper, start sanding with the 400, then 800.(You could even do 1000 grit). Clean with acetone again. Spray a few coats of primer to protect the Bondo and your DONE. Either paint or wrap the bumper when finished.(Obviously). Thanks and LMK how I did. Ill post a picture of the wrapped bumper in a few days on the vinyl wrap thread ill post. P.S. I also did the licence plate holes as well.
