Default How To? Replace Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, and I'm aware that there's a under carriage pic showing where the unit is located, but I need help with a step by step run through of how to change out the sending unit. Thanks a lot.

Why do you need to drain the oil? That sensor is on the output side of the pump and filter, not in the oil pan.

There's a procedure in section LU of the service manual for checking the oil pressure output with a gauge installed where the sending unit normally goes. They don't say anything about draining the oil. Matter of fact, the first step in the procedure is to check the oil level and add more if necessary.

Have the replacement ready to install to minimize loss of oil from the parts of the system above the sensor.

Cleanliness is important. Any dirt that gets into the system here goes directly to the bearings.

Be careful if the oil is hot, avoid long-term contact with used oil, etc, etc.

Thanks for the response. So I've read some people saying to remove oil and some not to, I'm sure it won't leak too much and if it does I'll just add more. Bare with me if I sound like a newbie doin stuff like this but I am I've got a couple more questions...upon installing new unit, do I need to add some kind of sealant to the threads, and if so, what kind?? What size socket will I need, and what's the spec it should be torqued at? Thanks. Also if anyone else wishes to add any more info, or their own detailed procedure I'd appreciate it.

It's all in the service manual except the socket size. You can get than when you get the new part. See the stickies in Maintenance Forum.
