Default Megan Racing BBK: Track Proven A++

I know what everybody's initial thought about Megan products are, and I took that into consideration this past weekend at California Speedway when Scott Bush (WA2GOOD) and I tested their parts on Scott's 350Z. Scott's 350Z is stock except for the Megan BBK, coilovers, sways, cat-back exhaust, and an intake so we found it a much more realistic test bed than our time attack car.

My Review:
I was honestly and genuinely impressed with this kit in every way. I had driven this car with these brakes before on the street and they were awesome on the street, but I thought I was going to be able to burn them up on the track to be honest. I will be the first to admit I fell into the trap that Megan products were sub-par to others because thats what I had heard. Well that was dumb. I beat the ever living hell out of these brakes and they took every bit of it. These brakes were every bit as good as the AP Racing BBK we use on the time attack car. Both Scott and I ran this car two days in a row, session after session, sometimes two sessions in a row driving the car HARD. The Cal Speedway ROVAL has some exceptionally hard braking zones as well like coming off of the oval and stopping from 145mph down to probably 40mph. The initial bite, and pedal feel of the Megans was incredible. Heat resistance was up to anything we could throw at it, and pad life was surprisingly well for running the pads supplied with the kit! Comparing them to the APs performance wise, they are every bit as good. Price wise, the Megans are half the price. Quality wise, the Megans actually come with much better 2-piece rotors. The AP Racing BBK's hardware has been known to break, but the Megan rotors already come with huge aluminum hats and beefy hardware that you would pay an additional couple thousand for getting the AP Racing Track Kit. My biggest complaint that I already had in my head before track testing these was pad selection, but now I don't care so much since the supplied pads were up to all of the abuse we threw at them and still maintained minimal wear!

So to sum it all up, we beat the crap out of these brakes and got no brake fade, no unusual pad wear, no discolored calipers, incredible initial bite, incredible stopping power, and reliable performance for half the price of other BBKs. And these are now my personal favorite street and track brakes and if I can sell my APs for enough money you will see this BBK on the Double Down Time Attack 350Z for 2008.

So don't listen to what people at HIN say, Megan Racing makes an amazing BBK.

I believe they always have been.

"Canadian" has been running them for a while and he's had no complaints during street/autocross/track use.

This recent track test just further backed up my findings on these brakes when I tested them on the track over a year ago. Here is the link to THAT thread...... https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....+Racing+brakes

We have installed these brakes on over five cars since then, with absolutely no problems. These brakes continue to impress me, and seem to be the brake to have on the street and on the track.

I like what you guys are doing on the West Coast -- continually trying out new products and pushing them to the limit. Regardless, the MR bashers will come out of the woodwork, even though most of their comments are old news and have not been as common as they claim. I've had my MR headers & test pipes for over a year now and have not had any issues. I have been looking at BBKs lately and I've been eyeing these MR BKKs due to the cost. You guys just proved it on the track than you don't have to spend over $3K to have decent BBKs.

Does this kit change the front/rear brake bias at all?

The bias on these brakes were very good as well. This kit seemed pretty well balanced and if anything, biased more towards the front as there wasn't any instances where I felt I had too much rear brake while threshold or trail braking. As far as a technical percentage of bias compared to stock, I don't know, but as far as driver feedback goes, there were no bias issues. Pad wear seemed pretty even as well front to rear.

Good write up! Only if Megan Racing makes different color calipers besides that blue they might sell more.

You could powdercoat them whatever color you wanted and still come out way cheaper than the competition.
