Default Greddy TT - 12.567, Won #1 in Street Class.

Well I set a personal new best for myself today, dont know where to begin... lets see. Basically I went down to Island Dragway here in NJ just so I can get 2-3 runs in before these "time bracket" eliminations start. All I wanted to do was test & tune, not compete... but I guess I kept on winning... actually, I beat 6 opponents and took home the #1 title and a small check, lol

Details:

1. The kit is running at the STOCK 5.8psi

2. Tires used were BFG Drag Radials, dropped the pressure to 16psi this time =) Amazing grip! Anything under 6000rpm launch would actually bog down!

3. Best time was a 12.567 @ 107.1 and guess what... I missed a gear. Yes, 5th gear to be exact, but I believe it would have hit a 12.4 if I didn't miss it.

4. The announcer LOST HIS MIND when he saw me run those numbers. Some random comments from his mouth:

- "Oh my god that Nissan is FAST. 12.7 in a street class... wow!"
- "Here comes the blue Nissan again! And he wins another one!"
- "I am impressed. He certainly deserved this title."

5. Like 20+ people asked me what the hell I have in that car.

Hope you guys are proud of me. I represented our car to the fullest today =)

PS: Thanks to Squill for my new avatar, lol.
PPS: Spanked a corvette on the way home ;p

damn....that is fast...and you are a great drag racer! Sweet!

Looks like the slicks cut at least a 1/2 sec from you time...maybe more...

How is the clutch holding up? Usually with slicks, you'll end up toasting the stock clutch. Mine is done..BTW!

GQ, you're my "self-tuner" idol =P

Anyway, thanks for the compliments. In reality, I'm not a great drag racer, I just got lucky... a buncha people I raced red-lighted or went faster than their dial-in. Hehe, too bad

My clutch is doing GREAT. It hasn't given me a single problem... not during burnouts, not during 6400rpm launches... My brakes, on the other hand Those I fry easy..

Next step - fix my turbo manifold leak (yes those numbers are with the leak, but its on the exhaust side), get the harness w/ diodes, fuel system, and boom - 8psi. Goal is to break 11s, think I can do it ? ;-]

PS: These aren't slicks, they're drag radials... best I could do with slicks was a measly 1.998 sixty-foot. I like the radials way more. AND you can drive down to the track on em! But yeah, they are the key... every .1 shaved in the sixty-foot is like .2 in the 1/4.

Hey quang, thanks for the kind words. I think since the account number isn't mine I don't really care But I know what you're trying to say.

Congrats and thanks for posting this info, Rony aka Slay2k aka A55MNKY.

You've helped me see why I've had trouble breaking into the 12s. It's not for lack of HP (my trap speeds are routinely in the 108mph range)--it's because I still need to work on my launch technique.

Did you do a full burnout to warm up the tires?

Default Awesome

On behalf of all Z owners, I'd like to thank you for proving that these can be damn fast cars :-) I'm so sick of the STI/EVO crowd calling our rids slow. Once I get a backup car and the capital, l'll probably be following in your shoes. Don't worry that's like 10yrs away. ;-)

Nice job that had to be alot of fun!!! I cant wait until u dial up the boost as with a fuel system upgrade you can run 10 psi should you so wish to push the limits!!!

I bet you get 11's @ 8-9 psi with the drag radials!

Nice check now you can build the motor with your winnings hee hee

Hey guys, thanks for all your warm comments.

To answer some of your questions, the BFGs are 275/40/17. Yes, I did a "short" burnout before every run... about 4 seconds. Only did it everytime because the runs were very far apart.

Kudos - you've got a 10 second car, on PUMP GAS... I'm gonna wanna see some timeslips from you soon :-]

Zimbo - they mispelled my name, its actually Romy. Hehe. But anyway, keep something in mind... when I ran a 12.700 with a 1.998 sixty-foot, my trap was 112mph. The better you launch, the less your trap speed. That might mean your trap with a good launch may be around 103mph.

Nzz - hehe, I'm not worried, by the time you get the capital, I'll have a built motor

lbsohk - yes, my face was . So much so that I taunted an old man in a Vette until he decided to race me, kamikaze-style.

Squill, yeah the next step is to dial it up a notch. And the check will help cover the gas back & forth from the track

Hey phunk,

Yeah you should be able to do it after a bunch of tries. It's gonna take a while to learn the right psi and to launch correctly. That's the hardest part. Then, when you do launch right, you'll make some stupid mistake like shifting too early or too late, or missing a gear, and then you'll have to wait in agony for another run :P

Anyway, the tricky part is... if you do launch at 5500-6300psi... the RPMs will drop to 4k, then go up to like 5500, then drop again to like 4500 and then spin up to 6500 really fast... I think it's because of the monster grip & loss of grip that occurs really quickly. The tricky part is not shifting too early, but not shifting too late... you'll get used to it. That's what happened during my 1.7 sixty-foot. I touched the rev-limiter during that run, but for a thousand of a second.
