my utec came with a turboxs boost controller solenoid, and i was wondering, how does it hold up? ive seen sharif's greddy tt packages has this in stage 2, but stage 3 includes the hks evc, so i know its not as good, but where does it lie between?

You can't compare a high end EBC to Utec BCS. It does what it supposed to do and a good value for the price you are paying. If you want a Gear Dependent Boost control then go with EVC and it is more accurate. I have a Utec BCS and I have no complain, it is also easy since it is integrated with Utec so your Map and Boost are set in one flip of the switch.
