Default VQ35DE Twin Turbo Tuning Tips

I'm about take the old girl to the shop and get her tuned up. It's a friends shop and they specialize in Evo's and Honda's. I'm a little worried that they might not be able do a quality tune due to inexperience with this particular motor. The person that will be doing the actual tune has many years under his belt. However, I know that every motor will exhibit it's own tendencies and personality.

Which brings me to my question, would any of the experienced tuners on the board be so kind as to give us some tips when tuning specifically a boosted VQ35DE? Assume intermediate tuning technique.

Thanks in advance guys!

You should tell us what ems you'll be using on your z and what upgrades

you have in mind for a more clear answer to your question. IMO

I'm really just after some general tuning tips for boosted applications. I'm sure that those of us tuning our own cars would appreciate such info.

However if anybody would like to give me some pointers specific to my build, here are the specs:
  • VQ35DE
  • Greddy TT
  • CJ Fuel Return kit
  • NGK's one step colder
  • AAM Spacer
  • Wastegate relocators with recirculated dumps
  • 3" test pipes and true dual exhaust
  • 91 pump gas
  • EMS: Either Osiris or UTEC
  • Intended usage: daily driving

Holla at a Z brutha!!

What PSI? Your tuner should be able to tune it since tuning is tuning. Now having said that, some tuner like their car lean and some richer so you can give them some guidelines on how VQ tuner like their A/F and timing.

Most tuner here like their A/F to be around 11.2-11.6 (On Stock Block and 93 octane gas) and no leaner than that. Make sure your tuner give you a little safety so your A/F at TQ peak should be on the low 11's (at least I like it like that). You don't want your timing to be any higher than 16 on 6000+ rpm (I have mine at 14 from 5500rpm+ @8 psi) and any higher than 13 on your Peak TQ also. Your tuner can add or pull timing depend on how your engine react since no engie is the same.

Edit: I just saw your 91 octane gas.. Everything I wrote are for 93 octane so take it for what its worth.

tuning is tuning but to a degree.Hopefully they are experienced tuners and are somewhat familiar with your ems. If they have tuned Evos and hondas then they should have a safe approach safely tuning to motor and extracting the most power out of it.

the main benefit a tuner with knowledge of the VQ35 would have, is they would know the motor can take certain amount of timing or whatever, but make sure they are somewhat familiar with the ems and have something to motor knock (not sure if utec can)

UTEC is very good at detecting and reacting to knock events.
