Extended Warranty /Cancel Question.
The warranty kicks in when the factory one runs out correct?
Also, lets say I financed a gold warranty with the car at the time of purchase and then decided to cancel it, within the 60 day timeframe, when they credit the loan, would my payments stay the same or go down?
Greg.

When I cancelled my extended warranty, they applied it to my loan, as a large payment, so my payments remained the same, but my term was shorter... you could refinance at that point if you need lower payments.

When i cancelled one, I just got a check in the post for the amount I paid for the warrenty, I guess you have the option of paying the warrenty amount of your loan which would bring it down.

One other thing, could you cancel the gold warranty and then get it again sometime down the road?

As a Finace Manager at Nissan I can tell you that the warranty starts the day the car is sold not when the factory warranty runs out. So if you have a 72/100000 its out in 72 months or when the Z hits 100000 not a 100000 on top of the factory warranty. Also on the canceling of it, the dealer has to send the money to the loan company you don't have a choice in this. You can add a warranty with nissan as long as the Z is still under the basic factory warranty once past that point nissan will not write a warranty for you.

I have one.
is it really worth it? Its the top dog, platinum? warranty.
I have had the car since 10/18/02 and have 16,700 miles on it.
how much would I get back if I paid $1400 for it?
what will it protect me from?

If you plan on keeping your car past 3 years 36,000 miles I highly recommend the extended warrenty... If even your A.C. system goes out, that will cost you $1200 if you dont have an extended warrenty... I've had extended warrentys on every car i've own and everytime i've used it for something or another, so its paid for it self each time....
Of course if you get a new car every 3 years then the warrenty is not worth it... excpet it might help sell your car if you sell it yourself...

Be careful, there is a grace period like 30-60 days. After that period, they pro-rate it. You lose each month.
they only kick in after the warraty ends, and they only warranty certain things, check the fine print.

I just purchased a new '05 and was planning to wait until I was closer to the 36 month mark before deciding whether to buy an extended warranty or not. By then, I should have a sense of the car's reliability, and know if I'll be keeping the car for the long term.
Is that a sensible approach?
Is there any reason to commit to an extended warranty now? (The dealer in CA acted as tho there was something to be gained by purchasing the warranty at the time I purchased the car, but he couldn't/wouldn't be specific about what the benefits were.)
TIA!

If you're still at a Nissan dealership in 11 months, I'll give you 1st shot at the deal. I prefer to give my money to someone who's willing to be upfront about costs and mark-ups.
