Angry Z broken into: which alarm now?

My 350Z was broken into this week. A laptop and sub-woofer were stolen ($1,000). The thieves smashed the drivers window ($351), opened the door, opened the hood and disconnected the battery, within about 10 seconds. Because the Alarm blast stopped when the battery was disconnected the parking structure people ignored it. Apparently, the thieves then popped the trunk at the release button under the trunk and stole the goods. I was surprised the trunk could be opened without battery or remote.

Which Alarm do I need to go with? I want perimiter control and forced entry notification by pager. I also want remote start while I'm at it. What all has every one else gone with? Can the factory alarm (base ie useless) be upgraded? Thanks.

Didn't know there was one under the strut bar...sounds like a car with a base alarm is wide open to a sophisticated thief...

Why keep the laptop in the Z overnight? Your begging for thieves to break-in your car.

Get a Viper 691 or 791 with backup battery alarm, and interior piezo sirens!

sorry to hear about your loss.. thieves should be kick in the nuts about 250 times with steel toe boots.
I have a viper. it's got about a mile radius (about 500 feet in reality) so it beeps when somebody's breaking into your car.

Let face it guys......

If anyone really wants to get into your car they will..... Regardless of an alarm system (Unless you sleep in your car) they will get into it...... A simple fact of life that I have gotten use to......
Park it as safely as possible, other than that... theres nothing else you can do

Try a two-way alarm (one that pages you when your alarm goes off). Even if it only goes off for 10 seconds, it'll still page you. Hopefully your remote will be next to you and notify you. You can also get backup Pizzo sirens in the car and a backup battery so if the thieves do disconnect the battery under the hood, the backup battery will keep the additional Pizzo sirens hidden in your car going. I have a Compustar, works great.

Hopefully there's nothing too sensitive on that laptop. Identity theft is a *****.

I think I'm in the majority when I say that I've grown to completely ignore car alarms. If it doesn't page you, it's completely worthless, and even then you have to have a little bit of discipline to check your vehicle after the 20 bazillionth false alarm.

Someone actually stole my last car ('94 Integra...exceptionally easy to break into).

Luckily, the police found it and I was able to reclaim it.

Now, I don't keep anything of value in my car. I CLUB it. The thieves can steal anything they want inside the car, but they won't steal my car. Sure, they can saw through the steering wheel and remove the club, but most thieves probably won't go through the effort to do that.

As far as I am concerned, all thieves should be have their thumbs severed (as per the Las Vegas mayor re: graffiti vandals).

Nine grams of lead to the neck. The only effective anti-theft device/cure.

even with pager notification, most thieves that break into or steal cars for a living are going to be in and out or in and gone before you could do Jack to stop them.

fix your stuff, tint the windows (makes it much harder to get through the glass) and keep stuff out of the open.

The Club is nearly useless. Besides the sawing thru the steering wheel part, there's another way that's a lot quicker.

See my post at https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ck#post1687148. If you had on a Club, alarm and an Autolock, that all combined would be much more of a deterrent.

Back to the OP, he should've gotten a battery backup siren so that it could've kept going off even w/o the battery disconnected. Unfortunately, the thief would still already been in his car.

The problems w/theft and all are unfortunately the reason why I still have the ****ty stock stereo and speakers. One of my previous cars got broken into just for the car stereo. The also stole a CD wallet w/20+ CDs.

dont buy the 6k feet compustar alarm!!!! its not worth the money!!!

i had it and i down grade it to the 900fm one...3k feet wich is more that you really need.

when you are inside a building even with the 6k feet alarm you will have problem getting to the alram with the remote..

the 6k alarm was good but they never got the remote right, i had 3 remotes replaced , the brain once and the antena twice....

the down grade from the 6k feet alarm is fine i havent had problems with that one..... plus the remote is a lot better, and like i said 3k feet is all you really need...

Anybody consider an ambush/setup to take down the thieves?
