Will this work? Cruise that is!
Hi guys! somebody posted this on another site and I'm really excited that i may get cruise control. Does anybody know if it will hook up? The poster wasn't sure and I don't want to waste any money. Thanks in advancehttp://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...D:100000217663

Not sure if it will work with the Z since the Z has an electronically controlled throttle body, most aftermarket cruise controls just grab the throttle cable and hold them in the position you set the cruise in
This one might be different tho

The mention of "Vacuum canister" makes me think that it uses a mechanical connection to hold/control the actual throttle. The "electronic" part of the device is in the speed sensor.
The Z uses fly-by-wire so there is no mechanical control over the throttle. It probably won't work. I'd check with JCWhitney or Audiovox. The Audiovox site didn't have much in the way of details on how it work....

I doubt that it will work. I had a base and investigated this mod quite a bit. I found that the stock cruise control interfaces directly with the ECM since all controls including throttle are controlled by the ECM. The enthusiast is a much better buy for this and other features included.
If you go as far as replacing the ECM, let me know. I bought the steering wheel controls before I gave up and would let them go pretty cheap..

I bought this unit and installed it on our Subie Forester. Yes, the vacuum canister is there to hold the mechanical throttle cable in place. So, no, I don't believe this design will work on a car with electronically controlled throttle.
