Default Cruise addon IMPOSSIBLE?

According to the parts manager at the local dealership, it is "Impossible" to add cruise control to my 06 Base. He sites "it has to come from the factory installed due to the drive by wire".

I have a hard time believing this, I would have assumed it was easier to program and add a switch as opposed to installing a servo to the accelerator?

Someone tell me they have added cruise to a base and tell me how much!

Bascially, the dealer is correct in that you can't add an integrated cruise control to the base. There have been numerous discussions and threads on it here for the last 3 years.

A couple of months ago, there was a guy claiming that he was going to hook up some type of mechanical control the the gas pedal. While that will probably work, I wouldn't want to be the one to beta test that puppy. Can you imagine what would happen if the pedal got stuck?

When you search "cruise control" on this forum, you can not find any "add on" specific threads for pages....

None the less, this is ****.. the sales puke said it could be added before I bought the base model, now I can't....

not having the option to buy the base model was the difference between getting a Z or not getting the Z. I was in the market for a $20k car, I stretched my budget to get into a Z at $24k.

It's not impossible, but no dealership/shop will be willing to take the project. Too much cost and liability.

Well, YES it can and has been done. I installed my cruise control in my '04 350Z and it works great. I ordered a Rostra Cruise control with a RF module to attach to the steering wheel. I ordered this from http://www.mnrelectronics.com/roscruiscon.html it took about 3 hours to install. The programming was the fun part. But for those nay sayers all freaked out about the pedal pull, it has been used on many types of cars without any problems. Good luck and PM me if you want some help or advice.

yeah, you would have to throw the car in neutral, listen to your car hit the rev limiter for a sec and turn the engine off, cruise or brake to a stop. its not as bad as you make it sound.
