Default Which is a better buy? Performance or Touring?

I don't mean to flame. This is just my own personal opinion why I think the performance is a better buy.

On the Nissan site, the Manual Touring is $33719 and the manual Performance is $30969. A difference of $2750. Basically, these 2 models are very similar aside from 2 MAIN differences. This doesn't mean there could be some other smaller differences, but I only saw these 2 that were worth notice. They are:

1. Leather Seats
2. Upgraded Bose Stereo System

So, if u went w/the touring, your paying almost $3000 for these 2 options. It all comes down to convenience because you could easily get aftermarket leather or even racing seats (like sparco/recaro) for under $1000, and a kickass stereo for under $2000. This is what i'm doing, and I think it will be much more worth it to have my special aftermarket options for less than what I would've paid for in the touring model. Again, it comes down to a matter of convenience whether you think its worth it or not.

Just my $.02

I never meant to flame w/my post, I was just posting my opinion b/c I wasn't sure if people were aware of the differences, and obviously by your post I am not aware. I just wanted to hear other peoples opinions if they had not seen this aspect before. Please, if you are in favor of the touring, just explain why and that'll be just fine. Again, i didn't mean to flame, I just wanted to see other peoples opinions on this.

FWIW, I'm doing the exact same thing, with the exact same reasoning.

It is worth noting, however, that there are a couple more minor things you do indeed miss-out on going this route:

- power seats
- heated seats
- heated mirrors
- subwoofer hole behind driver's seat

But I decided I don't care about these things, so went Performance...

My personal choice is performance but I don't think the power seats and heated seats/mirrors are insignificant toward the price. Some people may want these items and wouldn't mind paying for them.

Also, you have to remember that aftermarket stuff doesn't carry the Nissan warranty. This could play a part in some peoples choices.

I agree with you though that if you are going to change the stereo its hard to justify the upgrade Bose stereo.

I'll say this about this...

I'm glad Nissan had the presence of mind to have multiple packages, which offer everyone a lot of choices.

But I'm most pleased that Nissan didn't apply the 'Performance' moniker to the most loaded up luxo-barge version of the car. Performance should mean exactly that -- performance. I remember how proud I was of Acura when they released the Type R that they didn't include air conditioning just to save weight.

The Touring package is great, but for once the names seem to fit. I hardly consider this post flammable, and anyone who thinks that way is a bit closed minded to lively debate.

Anyone who ordered a Z ordered it a certain way for a certain reason, and everyone is entitled to their opinion on which package makes the most/least sense. And no one should feel compelled to be silenced because they might offend someone who ordered their car a certain way.

If poofy seats are your thing, then the touring package makes a lot of sense. If you're like me and have a hell-bent obsession to keep the Z true to it's roots, then maybe the "less is more" approach of the performance/enthusiast packages fits the bill.

Opinions are just that -- opinions. I have mine, others have theirs. If anyone wants to continue this conversation, I'm all for it -- just keep it clean and please be sure to back up your opinions with some solid logic.

Uh, yeah.

That's why I'm getting the PERFORMANCE.

I put a spreadsheet together the same day the model information came out and that's the conclusion I came to.

Sorry Zthang, but I have seen this exact same post start numerous flame wars over on other forums.

And FYI, you are wrong on the options you get with the touring package. And your opinion is a highly subjective one with regards to the quality of the seating. You post is inflammatory and as such, could cause backlash.
VERY much agreed.

The leather seats are AWESOME. Those alone almost made my change my mind.

For those that chose Touring: you will be rewarded. The leather is "super-sweet."

for people who like the style of the stock seat and the orange colour, touring is the way to go~ however, canada don't have so many different class so there are only 3 classes: track, performance(manuel) and touring(auto).

Exsilio, why so harsh? Zthang, did state from the beginning of his/her 1st post that it was their opinion. Your remarks are the ones that seem to inflame the flame wars. For a minute there, it sounded like we were in a communist state.

BTW, the above stated is my opinion.

I must have missed those as well. Obviously Mr. "Poofy Seats" has not actually sat on the touring leather. I found them to be very firm with little "cushion" when I sat in them this AM.

Hey, I have a poofy seat and it didn't cost me anything!

Well, a six-pack or two. But beyond that, NOTHING!

exsilio, don't worry...the second flaming starts, you know the mods will jump in and take out the trash You're right, a post like this would have started a flame war on other sites...so it seems, would a post entitled "I love everyone and everything"...this isn't like the other forums, and I know that's why you're here...my opinion: the best way to respond to a post that offends you is to not, and PM Jay or one of the mods.

I do see your point though, the same thing went through my mind when I saw the title of this thread. I don't think anyone can say one package is "better" than the others...it's far too subjective. Perhaps a better title would have been something like "Why I picked Performance over Touring" or something like that... just my two cents.
