Why I think the Performance is better than Touring
I don't mean to flame. This is just my own personal opinion why I think the performance is a better buy.
On the Nissan site, the Manual Touring is $33719 and the manual Performance is $30969. A difference of $2750. Basically, these 2 models are very similar aside from 2 MAIN differences. This doesn't mean there could be some other smaller differences, but I only saw these 2 that were worth notice. They are:
1. Leather Seats
2. Upgraded Bose Stereo System
So, if u went w/the touring, your paying almost $3000 for these 2 options. It all comes down to convenience because you could easily get aftermarket leather or even racing seats (like sparco/recaro) for under $1000, and a kickass stereo for under $2000. This is what i'm doing, and I think it will be much more worth it to have my special aftermarket options for less than what I would've paid for in the touring model. Again, it comes down to a matter of convenience whether you think its worth it or not.
Just my $.02

I think this thread should be stopped in it's tracks.
Sorry Zthang, but I have seen this exact same post start numerous flame wars over on other forums.
And FYI, you are wrong on the options you get with the touring package. And your opinion is a highly subjective one with regards to the quality of the seating. You post is inflammatory and as such, could cause backlash.

I never meant to flame w/my post, I was just posting my opinion b/c I wasn't sure if people were aware of the differences, and obviously by your post I am not aware. I just wanted to hear other peoples opinions if they had not seen this aspect before. Please, if you are in favor of the touring, just explain why and that'll be just fine. Again, i didn't mean to flame, I just wanted to see other peoples opinions on this.
FWIW, I'm doing the exact same thing, with the exact same reasoning.
It is worth noting, however, that there are a couple more minor things you do indeed miss-out on going this route:
- power seats
- heated seats
- heated mirrors
- subwoofer hole behind driver's seat
But I decided I don't care about these things, so went Performance...

VQ, no, never have. I have nothing against cloth seats, but if I do get leather I want it fromt he factory typically. And since the seats of the 350z are heated, I don't think that aftermarket seats would do the same thing...even if they did, it would hurt the reseale value.
Zthang,
I am sure you intentions were good. I was just stating that often times, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Which simply means that we may not intend for thsi thread to disintegrate into a flame war, the liklihood is high that it would because of the thread title and some of the remarks...
For myself, I chose the Touring for several reasons.
#1 Path of least resistance.
I like items from the factory, they are covered by my warranty and they usually are harmonious with the overall design.
The touring package offers:
* Leather Seats
* Heated Seats
* Power seats (driver and passenger)
* The upgraded stereo by Bose (that's a whole nother flame fest type of thread) with a 6 disc in dash cd changer..I love that
* Heated outside mirrors
And plus with the touring I could easily opt for the 6MT package for a just a bit more and get:
* VDC
* 18" rims
* Upgraded 18" tires
The path of least resistance in the sense that the only thing I will need to do with this car when I get it is tint it.
Many of your opinions are simply subjective too:
"you could easily get aftermarket leather or even racing seats (like sparco/recaro) for under $1000,"
True, but when you go to sell it or turn ina lease you are going to have a very difficult time, and who is to say you will even like the design of these seats you are suggesting.
"and a kickass stereo for under $2000.
Same reasoning applies. You didn't mention the other items the touring package offers. And for me I'm not interested in putting in an aftermarket system..especially since I lease. Any modification I make, besides tinting would possibly prevent me from turning the car in.
And honestly, my time is better served than having to wait and have a car stereo installer put in my stuff and then hope it works with the system and then it won't even look stock.
And the same applies to the chairs. Plus if you order the chairs youa re talking about, you won't get many of the seat options you get with touring package.
All in all, I think the touring is worth it and I am happy to see Nissan has offered a nice variety of packages for everyone.

My personal choice is performance but I don't think the power seats and heated seats/mirrors are insignificant toward the price. Some people may want these items and wouldn't mind paying for them.
Also, you have to remember that aftermarket stuff doesn't carry the Nissan warranty. This could play a part in some peoples choices.
I agree with you though that if you are going to change the stereo its hard to justify the upgrade Bose stereo.

I'll say this about this...
I'm glad Nissan had the presence of mind to have multiple packages, which offer everyone a lot of choices.
But I'm most pleased that Nissan didn't apply the 'Performance' moniker to the most loaded up luxo-barge version of the car. Performance should mean exactly that -- performance. I remember how proud I was of Acura when they released the Type R that they didn't include air conditioning just to save weight.
The Touring package is great, but for once the names seem to fit. I hardly consider this post flammable, and anyone who thinks that way is a bit closed minded to lively debate.
Anyone who ordered a Z ordered it a certain way for a certain reason, and everyone is entitled to their opinion on which package makes the most/least sense. And no one should feel compelled to be silenced because they might offend someone who ordered their car a certain way.
If poofy seats are your thing, then the touring package makes a lot of sense. If you're like me and have a hell-bent obsession to keep the Z true to it's roots, then maybe the "less is more" approach of the performance/enthusiast packages fits the bill.
Opinions are just that -- opinions. I have mine, others have theirs. If anyone wants to continue this conversation, I'm all for it -- just keep it clean and please be sure to back up your opinions with some solid logic.

The leather seats are AWESOME. Those alone almost made my change my mind.
For those that chose Touring: you will be rewarded. The leather is "super-sweet."
for people who like the style of the stock seat and the orange colour, touring is the way to go~ however, canada don't have so many different class so there are only 3 classes: track, performance(manuel) and touring(auto).

You're right, a post like this would have started a flame war on other sites...so it seems, would a post entitled "I love everyone and everything"...this isn't like the other forums, and I know that's why you're here...my opinion: the best way to respond to a post that offends you is to not, and PM Jay or one of the mods.I do see your point though, the same thing went through my mind when I saw the title of this thread. I don't think anyone can say one package is "better" than the others...it's far too subjective. Perhaps a better title would have been something like "Why I picked Performance over Touring" or something like that... just my two cents.

tbcz,
you are 100% right.
And I think I underestimated most of the people on this forum. You guys are the best. I just didn't want to see anything disintegrate into needless namecalling and worthless, circular argumentation.
To those that think I am a pinko communist,
Not entirely..I feel I should have all the right and you none..my dream is less communistic and more of a dictatorship.
Seriously though. I wanted to nip this in the bud purely out of fear that it could have gotten ugly. But I was wrong, and I am glad I was. I am all for lively debate, just not vapid arguments over subjective points.
