Exclamation So this is what happens when you hit an 18-wheeler tire doing 75...

So, I'm driving down the interstate coming home from school in raleigh (about 2.5 hr drive) and its raining and dark outside. All of a sudden a see an 18wheeler infront of me shed this tire and like launch it at me. It hit the ground and I ran over it with my right front wheel. I would have swerved but it being wet I figured worse stuff would happen. The damage isn't really bad, just aggrevating it happened. But luckly I am installing my turbo's next week so I will have the bumper off so it can get fixed. Here are the picture, 1st 5 are of the damage, and last one is of what its suppose to look like.

That sucks man. It was a good choice not to swerve though, especially in rain.

Oh yea, it also broke the washer fluid bottle inside the front bumper, so I gotta figure out if I can fix that or need a new one once i get the bumper off.

Quick thinking keeping a straight line.

Did you catch up with the truck? They are obligated to cover this under their insurance.

I think the washer bottle gets replaced or relocated during TT Kit install anyway doesn't it?

I know the feeling. This past spring while driving south on I-25 an 18 wheeler to my left front lost two retreads on his right side. Look like two logs coming at me, tumbling at 65 mph. Took out the left quarter panel, including head light and bumper. One bounced off the hood. He was forced to stop. The first words out of his mouth, "I hate retreads! Did any of the stuff hit you?".

I don't know which was worse. Being hit by the tires or the gravel and sh#t kicked up as he hit the shoulder next to the wall. As a result the car was repainted and windshield replaced. Total cost $6700.

At least you are OK! The "Z" can be repaired or replaced. I hope at the driver's or truck companies expense.

I believe its the coolant overflow bottle that gets replaced not the washer fluid bottle, I could be wrong. Also, he did not stop as I don't know that he knew it happened, or he could of actually hit the tire prior to me and it not even of been his. All I know is it come from under his truck. I didn't try to make him stop either, because I didn't think it damaged the car at all at the time, I thought i just ran over it, but realized this wasn't so when i pulled into my garage later that night. I was just worried about my tire pressure and kept an eye on the pressures displayed in the computer gauge for a good while.
